Job summary

Penn State Health is seeking a part-time Medical Laboratory Technician for the St. Joseph Medical Center in Reading, PA.

The role involves performing complex tests on blood and body fluids, following FDA, CAP, OSHA, CLIA, and Joint Commission guidelines to support diagnosis and patient care. Qualified candidates will have an associate degree in Laboratory Science or Military laboratory training, and must obtain board certification within 18 months.

Qualifications

  • Associates degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Laboratory Technology from an accredited institution OR be a high school graduate or equivalent and have successfully completed an official military medical laboratory procedures course of at least a duration of 50 weeks and have held the military enlisted occupational specialty of Medical Laboratory Specialist (Laboratory Technician).
  • Must be eligible for ASCP, AMT or equivalent board certification exam and must be Medical Laboratory Technician certified within 18 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Perform complex laboratory tests on blood, body fluids, cells, and tissues.
  • Work under minimal supervision following policies and procedures and regulatory guidelines.
  • Ensure test results assist in diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.
