Job summary

H&R Block in Jersey City, NJ is seeking a year-round Block Advisor to prepare complete, accurate tax returns for individuals and businesses, conduct in-depth client interviews, and provide clear, personalized recommendations.

You will build trusted, year-round client relationships, identify tax savings opportunities, and collaborate with a team to deliver client-focused service, supported by training and an incentive plan.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of the H&R Block Tax Knowledge Assessment
• 5+ years of experience in tax preparation, accounting, finance, or bookkeeping
• Experience preparing complex individual returns and business returns
• Experience working in a client-facing, consultative, or advisory role
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain tax concepts in client-friendly language
• Must complete continuing education and meet all other IRS and applicable state requirements
• High school diploma / GED / equivalent

About The Role

As a year-round Block Advisor

As a year-round Block Advisor Tax Advisor, you are a trusted advisor who helps clients navigate complex tax and business services situations with confidence. You'll use your expertise to prepare accurate returns, uncover savings opportunities, and build lasting client relationships — backed by industry-leading training and technology, a competitive hourly rate, and an incentive plan that rewards your impact as you build your tax expertise and serve clients.

This role is in-person at a local Block Advisors office.

Required Qualifications

• Successful completion of the H&R Block Tax Knowledge Assessment¹
• 5+ years of experience in tax preparation, accounting, finance, or bookkeeping
• Experience preparing complex individual returns and business returns, including tax planning, audit support, and tax notice resolution
• Experience working in a client-facing, consultative, or advisory role
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain tax concepts in client-friendly language
• Must complete continuing education and meet all other IRS and applicable state requirements
• High school diploma / GED / equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
• CPA or Enrolled Agent (EA), or other IRS Circular 230 credentials
• Familiarity with GoSystem or Ultratax software
• Familiarity with AI-powered tools (e.g., Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT)
• Experience in a consultative or advisory client relationship role (financial advising, insurance, or professional services)

Pay Range Information

The pay range for this position is listed below. Local minimum wage laws apply. This information is posted pursuant to local requirements to provide applicants with information about what they might be eligible to receive. Individual pay decisions will depend on job-related factors such as experience, education, skill, performance, and geographic location where work will be performed. Successful candidates may be able to participate in one or more incentive compensation or short-term incentive plans, which could generate additional earnings in accordance with the terms of each plan. Qualifying associates can enroll themselves and/or their eligible dependents in medical and prescription drug coverage; can participate in the H&R Block Retirement Savings Plan (401(k) Plan), the Employee Assistance Program, (virtual) fitness center programs, and the associate discount program; are automatically enrolled in Business Travel Accident Insurance; and receive Associate Tax Prep benefit.

Pay Range

$15.92 - $80.00/Hr.
