Job summary

EmpowerMama is seeking PA Medicaid-enrolled full-spectrum doulas to provide non-medical support through perinatal and postpartum periods, including labor and delivery. You will offer home-based and community care addressing physical, emotional, and informational needs from pregnancy to early parenthood.

Responsibilities include birth and emotional support, infant care, advocacy, and referrals, while maintaining flexibility for on-call hours.

Qualifications

• Completion of a full spectrum or postpartum doula training program and certification.
• Birth doula certification preferred; lactation/breastfeeding consultation certification also preferred.
• Must be enrolled as a PA Medicaid provider.
• Reliable transportation for home visits and birth support across the service area.
• Strong communication, empathy, organizational skills; cultural competency with diverse populations.
• In-depth knowledge of pregnancy, birth, postpartum care, breastfeeding, and newborn health.
• Positive, compassionate, patient, and nurturing demeanor; empathetic and non-judgmental approach.
• Flexible hours including on-call availability for births; able to pass a background check; CPR certification required.

Responsibilities

• Birth Support: Continuous emotional, physical, and informational support during labor and delivery.
• Emotional Support: Provide reassurance to expectant and new parents through pregnancy and postpartum.
• Physical Comfort: Support comfort measures during labor and post-delivery recovery.
• Infant Care: Demonstrate newborn care techniques including feeding and soothing.
• Informational Support: Share evidence-based information on pregnancy, birth options, breastfeeding, and postpartum recovery.
• Advocacy: Help families communicate with healthcare providers and access resources.
• Household Organization: Perform light housekeeping to aid recovery and bonding.
• Sibling Support: Assist older siblings during family changes.
• Referrals: Connect families to additional resources and services as needed.
