Job summary

Indianapolis Zoo seeks an energetic Encounters Keeper to assist with bird species care and guest interactions. This part-time role (<=29 hours/week) involves daily husbandry tasks, informal presentations, and tours for visitors year-round.

Candidates should have a life sciences background, strong public speaking skills, and the ability to work outdoors in various weather. Prior bird experience and comfort with guest interaction are highly valued.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences is highly desired.
• Minimum of one year of animal care experience, preferably with birds.
• Comfort conducting informal presentations and chats to the public.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying conditions.
• Excellent public speaking and guest service skills.
• Able to ascend ladders and uneven terrain; physical tasks required.
• High school diploma required; Life Science degree strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform daily husbandry tasks for birds and care for exhibits.
• Provide informal presentations, chats, and feeds to visitors throughout the day.
• Directly responsible for health and well-being of the collections assigned.
• Follow all safety policies and procedures of the Indianapolis Zoo.
• Learn and implement species quarantine procedures as directed.
