Bayer is seeking a Biotech Sustainability Intern in Berkeley, CA to shape the North America sustainability strategy and translate global ambitions into local actions. You will work with diverse teams to implement metrics, data-driven initiatives, and training while ensuring regulatory compliance and driving responsible operations.

The role offers exposure to energy efficiency, pollution reduction, waste minimization, and sustainable facility design within a leading life sciences environment.

Qualifications

• Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Graduate degree program in Sustainability Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Energy, Science, or a related field.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to tailor messages to different internal audiences.
• Ability to work with internal customers at various levels and build trusted relationships.
• Strong organizational skills, documentation, prioritization, and scheduling.
• Basic problem-solving and project management abilities with a proactive demeanor.
• Comfort working independently and managing multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Shape the Biotech sustainability program into a North America-specific strategy with implementation tactics and goals.
• Provide guidance and support for sustainability initiatives, including metrics and data.
• Collaborate with stakeholders to build partnerships on environmental topics and coordinate training as needed.
• Maintain knowledge of applicable environmental laws and ensure compliance.
• Participate in sustainability focus and steering committees, aligning local efforts with global priorities.
• Gather data and report progress against external benchmarks and internal goals.
• Track strategies to improve system performance, reduce carbon footprint, greenhouse gas emissions, waste, and water usage.
• Assist with developing and monitoring KPIs and benchmarking against competitors.
