Job summary

The Junior Research Technician at the University of Chicago's BSD SRF - HTRC Biobank supports biomedical projects by processing biospecimens, including whole blood components and PBMCs, and assisting tissue sample processing.

You will work under supervision, communicate with Clinical Research Coordinators and investigators, maintain supplies, and ensure regulatory compliance in a lab environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships or the equivalent experience in related field.
• Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through < 2 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Responsibilities

• Process whole blood into components (plasma, serum and DNA).
• Isolate peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC).
• Aliquot fecal samples.
• Assist in processing of human tissue samples.
• Use an electronic inventory management system to track sample custody and long‑term storage locations in the HTRC Freezer Farm.
• Communicate with CRCs and investigators about sample delivery, process times, and questions about samples via phone/email/pager.
• Access -80C and liquid nitrogen (-196C) freezers and dry ice chest with appropriate PPE to retrieve and store biospecimens.
• Maintain adequate stock of supplies.
• Provide routine laboratory duties and data collection under direct supervision.
• Collect and enter data; assist in data analysis and report preparation.
• Comply with institution, state, and federal policies.
• Perform other related work as needed.
