Franciscan Health Indianapolis Campus is seeking a Biomedical Technician I to support the Clinical Engineering Department in maintaining diagnostic and therapeutic medical equipment. You will perform data entry in the equipment database, compile reports, and communicate with vendors to ensure equipment is safe and ready for patient care.

Work may span various units and locations, with emphasis on cost-effective management, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED is required.
  • Preferred enrolment in undergrad/trade program or related internship.
  • Preferred AS/BS in biomedical tech or related field.
  • 1 year with AS/BS in tech or internship/experience preferred.
  • If AS degree pending, contingent on degree completion.
  • 2 years in a BMET path could lead to promotion with no extra education.
  • 4 years experience in healthcare if no degree.

Responsibilities

The Biomedical Technician I works within the Clinical Engineering Department to support activities related to the service and management of the medical equipment. This position may perform activities, such as data entry and analysis within the medical equipment database, compiling and submitting various reports, direct communication with vendors and customers, and performing basic technical service activities. For all tasks, there will be an emphasis on high quality and contribution to the department’s efforts toward cost-effective management of the medical equipment. The Biomedical Technician I may work within any assigned area(s) of Franciscan Health and at other locations supported by the Clinical Engineering Department, under the guidance of Biomedical Equipment Technicians or Clinical Engineers, as directed by Clinical Engineering management.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT

  • Assess new technology and assists in the procurement of clinical equipment.

  • Establish and implement plan for collecting data on new technology.

  • Review pre-purchase evaluation.

  • Install, inspect, troubleshoot, repair, calibrate, and perform modifications on diagnostic and therapeutic medical electrical.

  • Perform and provide mechanical repairs, modifications, and calibrations of all classes of biomedical equipment, including ECG, pulse, blood pressure and respiration monitors, defibrillators, IV pumps, electrosurgical units, respirators, anesthesia units, hyperthermia units, suction and pressure pumps, centrifuges, and any other related biomedical instrumentation.

  • Initiate PM, and repair on medical equipment, to ensure it is safe and effective for use.

  • Oversee the use of medical devices and initiate needed changes for improvement of utilization

  • Ensure compliance with applicable accredited agencies for assigned areas.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Required High School Diploma/GED GED or high school diploma

  • Preferred Enrolled in program undergraduate/trade school/participation/ program aligned internship

  • Preferred Associate's Degree Biomedical Engineering Technology or related

  • 1 year With an AS (or BS) Degree in a Technology related field, successful participation in an Internship or apprenticeship or 1 year Technology related service experience is preferred Preferred

  • 1 year If enrolled in a Technology Related Field with AS degree completion expected within 3 months, the BMET I position MAY BE OFFERED CONTINGENT ON COMPLETION OF THE DEGREE as scheduled with a minimum of 3 months successful participation in an internship or apprenticeship in a technology related role Required

  • 1 year With an AS Degree in a non-technology related field, an Internship or 1 Year Technology Related service experience is required Required

  • 2 years Current Franciscan Coworkers in a position of BMET Apprentice or Biomedical Technician Assistant could be promoted to this position after 2 years in either of those roles with no additional education or experience requirements if that coworker is currently meeting all the performance expectations of their role Required

  • 4 years In lieu of AS or BS Degree in a technology related field, 4 years relevant progressive service experience with at least 2 years in a Healthcare Environment is required Required

  • A+ Certified Professional (A+CERT) - CompTia IS Related Certification (A+, Network+ or related) preferred within 24 months
