Job summary

Blue Water Thinking seeks a Biomedical Equipment Technician at the VA Grand Junction facility. The role ensures medical equipment reliability, safety, and cybersecurity alignment through preventive and corrective maintenance, installations, and software updates.

You will work with IT, cybersecurity, and clinical staff to optimize device performance, perform electrical safety inspections, and manage documentation via CMMS.

Qualifications

  • A two-year Associate degree or higher in an applied science or equivalent military training.
  • Demonstrated competency to perform operational verification procedures, planned maintenance, and repair service on various medical equipment.
  • Understanding of regulatory agencies’ requirements, industry regulatory requirements, and ISO standards.
  • Familiarity with the setup and application of test equipment.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical literature, schematics, and drawings.
  • Level III Experience – minimum 5 years hospital or healthcare maintenance experience.
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain federal public trust clearance.
  • Proof of COVID and flu vaccination or exemptions.

  • Maintain accurate CMMS records of maintenance activities.
  • Provide technical support and training to medical staff on equipment operation.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and ISO standards.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to improve patient care.
  • Cerner EHR integration experience preferred.

Biomedical Technician / Equipment Support Specialist – Level III

Onsite – Grand Junction, CO

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Biomedical Equipment Technician to join our dynamic team at the VA. In this role, you will ensure the reliability, functionality, and safety of medical equipment through preventive and corrective maintenance, inspections, installations, software updates, and collaboration with IT and cybersecurity teams.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform routine preventive maintenance on a diverse range of medical equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
  • Diagnose and repair malfunctions in medical devices in accordance with manufacturer guidelines.
  • Carry out incoming inspections of new medical equipment to verify compliance with safety standards.
  • Collaborate with IT and cybersecurity teams to implement and maintain medical device security protocols.
  • Install, calibrate, and configure medical equipment following manufacturer instructions.
  • Conduct electrical safety inspections to identify and address potential hazards.
  • Monitor and address hazard and safety recalls, coordinating with manufacturers.
  • Perform software repairs and updates on medical devices.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities using CMMS.
  • Provide technical support and training to medical staff on equipment operation.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, advancements, and regulations related to biomedical equipment.
  • Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to enhance patient care.
  • Experience with Cerner electronic health record (EHR) systems and integration is preferred.

Location: Grand Junction, CO VA Medical Center

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience within a medical center and Biomedical Engineering department.
  • Or experience working in or with the Veterans Health Administration (VHA).
  • Or understanding of VISN, VA medical center, and Biomedical Engineering department operations.

Role Specific Qualifications:

  • A two‑year associate degree or higher in an applied science or equivalent military training.
  • Demonstrated competency to perform operational verification procedures, planned maintenance, and repair service on various medical equipment.
  • Understanding of regulatory agencies’ requirements, industry regulatory requirements, and ISO standards.
  • Familiarity with the setup and application of test equipment.

  • Level III Experience – a minimum of five years of hospital or healthcare experience performing medical equipment maintenance.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

  • Must provide proof of COVID and flu vaccination or appropriate documentation for exemptions.

Compensation:

Salary for this position ranges from $43,000 to $83,000, depending on experience and qualifications. We are offering a $5,000 signing bonus for local candidates or relocation assistance for those relocating.
