Job summary

RWD Consulting, LLC is seeking a highly experienced Biomedical Equipment Specialist to support the Walter Reed Bethesda Simulation Center. This role focuses on troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining advanced simulators and biomedical devices used in training and patient care.

The candidate must possess a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering and at least five years of biomedical equipment experience, including three+ years with medical simulators, and US citizenship.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in working with, repairing, and troubleshooting biomedical equipment.
  • Three (3) or more years’ experience in working with, repairing, and troubleshooting medical simulators (robotic patients and virtual reality simulators)
  • Be a U.S Citizen.
  • Experience with at least one of the following systems: Laerdal Medical, VirtaMED, CAE Healthcare, Mimic Technologies, Simbionix.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for applying advanced engineering practices to complex multi-disciplinary patient care through digital design, computer manufacturing techniques, CPU control boards and wiring; develops goals, objectives, priorities and deadlines for training programs.
  • Maintain competency by reviewing literature, attending conferences, meetings and professional courses; present technical papers to national groups.
  • Under Medical Director guidance, oversee simulation diagnostic troubleshooting and repair for non-functioning training units and assist in medical simulation training at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
  • Work under supervision; develop deadlines, projects and priorities; allocate resources and set project direction.
  • Plan and carry out projects to evaluate repair procedures to improve efficiency and productivity of the Simulation Center; assist in maintaining medical equipment across WRNMMC and DHA partners.
  • Ensure reduced learner and patient risk; provide cost-effective solutions.
  • Maintain contacts with physicians, nurses, interns, and vendors to exchange information and coordinate work.
  • Follow guidelines from Army Central Committee; apply and adapt guidelines to assignments.
  • Formulate monthly reports on production, inventory, quality improvement and training.
  • Plan assignments per policies; keep service chiefs informed of progress and resolutions.
  • Assist with resolving technical issues across simulation equipment—from task trainers to VR simulators.
  • Ensure SOP compliance for simulators and equipment usage.
  • Write and update SOPs.
  • Track troubleshooting, repair logs and simulator functionality; report to Medical Director.
  • Research simulation technology and provide findings.
  • Advise on application and utilization of training simulators.
  • Provide monthly budget-related reports for repairs of simulation and biomedical equipment.
  • Assist with documentation for budget requests.
  • Collect data and justify purchases for new simulation technology; monitor usage.
  • Maintain historical usage records.
  • Maintain databases for simulation equipment and supplies; manage returns to vendors.
  • Adhere to hand receipt policies and coordinate with Logistics on purchasing.
  • Coordinate calibration and repair for simulators/equipment.
  • Problem solve across simulators/equipment with supporting activities.
  • Participate in development of research protocols related to best practices in training equipment.
  • Participate in researching and evaluating new simulation technology.
  • Attend national conferences; arrange demonstrations of new simulation technology.
  • Promote the MTF Simulation Center through informational tours.
  • Know Navy/Army MTF policies to coordinate simulation training and purchasing.
  • Apply medical terminology and simulation software knowledge to recommend improvements.
  • Communicate effectively in writing and verbally.
  • Multi-task in a dynamic environment.
  • Understand shipping/receiving processes and track equipment returns.
