Job summary

Abbott in Burlington, MA is seeking an Engineer to perform failure analysis on explanted long-term biomedical implant products. The role requires applying theoretical principles, evaluation, and analytical techniques to identify root causes and support quality systems.

You will collaborate with Product Development, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Product Surveillance, mentor junior staff, and help define test equipment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering is required; Electrical or Biomedical Engineering preferred.
  • Engineering work experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of global medical device reporting regulations and medical terminology preferred.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, facilitation, and presentation skills required.
  • Ability to manage multiple assignments, prioritize effectively, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across teams and communicate effectively with all levels of employees.
  • Demonstrated record of delivering reliability engineering insights that support management decision‑making.
  • Proficiency with personal computer applications, including spreadsheets, word processing, databases, and specialized software.

Responsibilities

  • Perform failure analysis on explanted long term biomedical implant product.
  • Apply theoretical principals, evaluation, ingenuity, and analytical techniques to identify root cause failure mechanisms.
  • Meet deadlines on multiple assignments and operate in a diverse cross‑functional team environment.
  • Proactive in finding quality improvements related to Failure Analysis.
  • May serve as lead and mentor less experienced lab staff.
  • Work cross functionally with Product Development, Engineering, Manufacturing, and Product Surveillance.
  • Aid in defining test equipment to accomplish quality responsibilities.
  • Support Company initiatives in QMS, EMS, and regulatory requirements.
  • Comply with FDA regulations, other regulatory requirements, and company policies.
  • Maintain positive communications with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.
