Job Title

Biomedical Equipment Technician I

Job Description

Provides a basic level of equipment and/or departmental service and support. Performs preventive maintenance, quality assurance inspections, installation, testing, calibration, troubleshooting, repair, and general maintenance on biomedical, clinical data/network systems, and related technologies.

Responsibilities
  • Perform preventive maintenance (PM) on assigned equipment to maintain high PM compliance.
  • Manage database and device control records, entering work‑order data.
  • Evaluate repairs on malfunctioning equipment and determine cost‑effective action.
  • Identify and obtain parts, supplies, and technical materials at lowest cost.
  • Perform repairs on defective or malfunctioning equipment.
  • Provide in‑service training to other clinical engineering technicians.
  • Maintain supporting technical literature such as manufacturer literature, standard references, and specifications.
  • Assist with evaluating and monitoring work performed by outside service providers.
  • Participate in new equipment evaluations, acquisitions, and installations.
  • Assist with recall/alert identification and management.
  • Prioritize scheduled maintenance per policy.
  • Respond to maintenance requests from equipment users; assess, verify problems, and troubleshoot.
  • Verify FDA, ECRI, manufacturer recall data for covered equipment.
  • Review incident reports related to equipment malfunction or misuse to ensure patient safety.
  • Attend vendor‑sponsored technical training service schools.
  • Undertake special projects and other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in continuous performance improvement initiatives.
  • Conform to flexible work schedule on an as‑needed basis.
  • Participate in on‑call rotation and upgrade support.
Qualifications
Education
  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Preferred: Associate degree in Electronics, Biomedical Engineering, or related field.
Experience
  • Progressive experience performing repairs and preventive maintenance on biomedical equipment.
  • Preferred: 1+ years of progressive experience performing electronic and/or electromechanical repairs and preventive maintenance on general and specialized biomedical equipment.
Additional Experience
  • Certified Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) and/or Military (DoD) Biomedical Equipment Technician certification.
  • Vendor and manufacturer (OEM) repair/training certification(s) or similar credentials.
  • GE PCS/Telemetry experience (a plus).
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Knowledge of state‑of‑the‑art electronic and test equipment, QA procedures, and preventive maintenance.
  • Knowledge of alternative parts suppliers.
  • Knowledge of computer software‑based work order tracking systems.
  • Ability to use vendor‑supplied service documentation, technical manuals, and industry parts and specification materials.
  • Team collaboration and self‑motivation.
  • Ability to manage multiple and changing priorities.
  • Must be able to visit multiple business locations.
Work Schedule & Requirements
  • Standard support hours: Monday – Friday, 7:00 am – 6:00 pm (8‑hour day / split shift).
  • Shift 1: 7:00 am – 3:30 pm; Shift 2: 9:30 am – 6:00 pm.
  • Some after‑hours, weekend, and holiday work may be required.
  • May be responsible for multiple locations in same geographic area.
  • Site‑to‑site travel may be required.
  • Flexible work schedule to accommodate early morning or evening repairs.
  • Weekly on‑call rotation for after‑hours and weekend support.
