Job summary

The Brigham and Women's Hospital, Inc. is seeking a Biomedical Technician for the Periop team. This role inspects medical devices, performs safety testing, and provides maintenance and repair to ensure equipment operates correctly.

You will conduct evaluations, assist with installations and upgrades, document procedures, and participate in rounds across clinical areas. Associate degree required; 1–2 years experience preferred; on-site at 15 Francis Street.

Job Summary

This position is for the Periop team at Brigham and Women's Hospital.

Summary

Does this position require Patient Care? No

  • Inspects newly acquired medical devices and systems for safety and function and attaches and assigns appropriate control numbers and labels to medical devices.
  • Conducts complete performance assurance and electrical safety testing.
  • Performs preventive/scheduled maintenance on medical devices as required.
  • Respond to medical equipment problems in clinical or research areas; evaluate, troubleshoot, and solve problems.
  • Performs equipment repairs to a level requiring generic test instrumentation or diagnostic software, e.g., to board or component level for electrical devices.
  • Participates in medical equipment evaluations, installations, and upgrades, including software revision.
  • Makes periodic rounds of assigned clinical areas to assess the operation of medical devices and systems.
  • Instructs department and other equipment technical staff on testing, calibration, preventive maintenance, basic troubleshooting, and medical equipment repair.
  • Documents inspections, repairs, maintenance procedures, and teaching activities.

Associate's Degree Biomedical Technician required

  • Class D Passenger Vehicle Driver's License [State License] - Generic - HR Only preferred
  • Personal Drivers License (New Hampshire) - New Hampshire Division of Motor Vehicles preferred
  • MGH Security RMV Check/Registry of Motor Vehicles Driving Report - MGB Internal preferred
Experience
  • Experience as a biomedical technician. 1-2 years preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Demonstrates and understands the importance of interpersonal and communication skills to effectively work with team members, front line staff and vendors.
  • Understands electrical and mechanical biomedical safety principles.
  • Ability to learn and perform maintenance and troubleshooting of medical devices involving appropriate test equipment and software diagnostic tools.
  • Ability to learn equipment maintenance, operating procedures, and repair procedures from training materials and courses.
  • Ability to use computer-based tools.
