Job summary

GE HealthCare is seeking a Biomedical Equipment Technician 2 to service hospital equipment onsite in and around the Reston, VA area. The role involves evaluating, diagnosing, repairing and performing PM on complex biomedical devices while driving service excellence.

The candidate will lead technicians, coordinate with hospital staff, and ensure documentation and compliance. The position may involve on-call duties and evolving responsibilities within a local GE service team.

Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Biomedical, or Mechanical Engineering or related field with 2+ years of service experience.
  • Equivalent military education with 2+ years servicing electrical or mechanical equipment.
  • High School Diploma/GED with 4+ years of experience servicing medical equipment.
  • Analytical and communication skills to explain technical issues clearly to customers.
  • Willingness to be available after hours or on-call including weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate complex biomedical equipment issues and implement repairs.
  • Perform planned maintenance (PM), safety and environmental inspections, and maintain customer relations.
  • Follow GE policies, procedures, hospital protocol, and complete necessary documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with teammates and customers to ensure resolution.
  • Establish proactive daily communications with customers to ensure satisfaction.
  • Lead and assist technicians on basic and complex repairs as needed.
  • Work with local team to deliver efficient service across accounts in the area.
  • Share on-call/pager responsibility.
  • Document all repair actions and submit reports on schedule.
  • Care for spares, tools and test equipment; ensure calibration.
  • Maintain approved parts inventory.
  • Manage vendors' service delivery per GE policies.
  • Stay updated on standards, codes, and procedures for safe use of medical equipment.
  • Possibly serve as Site Leader and engage in account activities.

Job Description

The Biomedical Equipment Technician 2 will work onsite at one or more hospital locations in and around the Reston, VA service area. The Biomedical Equipment Technician 2 responds to service calls to evaluate, diagnose, perform repair/planned maintenance (PM) on progressively complex customer's biomedical equipment, and drives customer satisfaction through Service Excellence.


Key Responsibilities


  • Evaluate complex, customer biomedical equipment issues, and implement appropriate repairs.

  • Perform planned maintenance (PM), safety and environmental inspections, and maintain effective customer relations.

  • Follow and guide others as needed regarding appropriate GE policies, procedures, hospital protocol, and complete necessary documentation.

  • Effectively communicate and partner with teammates and colleagues.

  • Establish and engage in proactive daily communications with customers, to ensure resolution and proper follow

  • up, leading to customer satisfaction.

  • Implement GE/customer facility contract, supporting business goals and objectives.

  • Lead, instruct, and assist technicians on basic and complex repairs and resolution.

  • Work as a member of local team to provide efficient service delivery to all accounts within assigned area.

  • Share on-call/pager responsibility.

  • Document all repair actions and submit reports/summaries according to schedule.

  • Ensure proper care of spares, tools and test equipment, and ensure calibration.

  • Maintain approved parts inventory.

  • Manage vendors' service delivery processes in compliance with GE policies, as instructed.

  • Enhance and maintain technical knowledge of current standards, codes, and procedures regarding safe and effective use of medical equipment through formal instruction.

  • May perform role of Site Leader (e.g., direct activities of fellow Biomedical Technicians assigned to site, engage in a more interactive customer relationship, which may include Safety Committee or other participation, with regard to overall account activity).

  • Meet Health and Human Services, Environment Health and Safety requirements, and/or all other applicable regulatory requirements.


Required Qualifications


  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field and 2+ years of experience servicing medical equipment;

  • OR equivalent military education and 2+ years of experience servicing electrical or mechanical equipment;

  • OR High School Diploma/GED and 4+ years of experience servicing medical equipment.

  • Analytical and communication skills with the ability to communicate technical issues to the customer in an easy to understand manner.

  • Willingness to be available \"after hours\", or work a rotating On-Call schedule, including weekends, for critical issues and coverage, as necessary.


Special Physical Requirements

Candidate must be able to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 35 lbs. unassisted and frequently bend, stoop, twist, climb, crouch/squat, kneel/crawl, sit and stand for long periods of time. Candidate must also be able to reach at, above and below shoulder level, flex/extend neck and have good hand and finger dexterity. Specific vision abilities required by this job may include color, close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and depth perception.


Salary

We will not sponsor individuals for employment visas, now or in the future, for this job opening. For U.S. based positions only, the pay range for this position is $71,840.00-$107,760.00 Annual. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the pay range and compensation decisions are dependent on the facts and circumstances of each case. The specific compensation offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including skills, qualifications, experience and location. In addition, this position may also be eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI).
