Job summary

UW Health in Madison, WI is seeking a Biomedical Engineering Specialist to diagnose and repair complex medical equipment, including in critical care areas and ORs. You will work independently, in shop and on-site, ensuring uptime and patient safety.

The role includes overseeing preventive maintenance, evaluating vendor vs in-house options, and staying current with Joint Commission standards. A relevant HTM/BME degree or DOD training plus several years' experience is required or preferred.

Qualifications

  • HTM/ Biomedical Engineering AS degree or DOD biomedical technician training; 4 years of relevant biomedical technician experience.
  • BS/AS in HTM/ Biomedical Engineering or DOD training; 4 years of related biomedical technician experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose defective medical equipment and implement repairs without direct supervision in shop and critical care settings, including ORs.
  • Perform, coordinate, monitor, and supervise a preventative maintenance program for all equipment assigned to ensure compliance.
  • Determine practicality and cost-effectiveness of utilizing vendors or in-house staff.
  • Maintain working knowledge of applicable codes and standards for maintaining medical equipment (e.g., Joint Commission).
  • Assist with creating and conducting new device implementation, training, and workflow enhancements for various groups.

Education

Associate's Degree of Applied Science in HTM / Biomedical Engineering or Completion of DOD Biomedical Technician training
Bachelor's Degree of Applied Science in HTM / Biomedical Engineering or Completion of DOD Biomedical Technician training
