Job summary

U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs is seeking a Biomedical Equipment Support Specialist (BESS) to provide clinical and administrative support for lifecycle management of medical equipment across the facility.

The role applies engineering concepts to support diagnostic, therapeutic devices and monitoring systems used in patient care. Responsibilities include lifecycle management, testing, and calibration using specialized equipment, applying NFPA/FDA/TJC/AAMI standards, maintaining equipment

Qualifications

• Knowledge of NFPA, FDA, TJC, and AAMI standards for safe operation of medical equipment and clinical systems.
• Ability to interpret technical data such as schematic drawings and wiring diagrams.
• Skill in applying networking principles (ACL, TCP/IP, VLAN).
• Ability to perform advanced testing to troubleshoot medical equipment and clinical interfaces.
• Ability to maintain medical computers and software and manage projects involving medical equipment.

Responsibilities

• Provide lifecycle management and technical support for diagnostic, therapeutic, monitoring and related medical equipment.
• Support staff, patients, and administrators with equipment-related concerns across the facility.
• Ensure compliance with applicable safety and quality standards (NFPA, FDA, TJC, AAMI).
• Utilize test/calibration tools and networking knowledge to troubleshoot and service equipment.
