Job summary

Hackensack Meridian Health is seeking a Biomedical Engineering Technician II (BMET II) to maintain medical equipment readiness, perform scheduled maintenance, repairs, end-user support, and installations to ensure devices comply with manufacturer specifications.

The BMET II will support compliance with the Medical Equipment Management Plan (MEMP) to enhance patient safety and contribute to a culture of quality and reliability across hospital and clinical environments.

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Electronics or Biomedical Engineering Technology with 1 year fulltime BMET work experience, or AS degree in Electronics or Biomedical Engineering Technology with 2 years fulltime BMET work experience, or Completion of a U.S. military biomedical equipment technology program and two years fulltime BMET work experience, or High School diploma, GED, and/or GED equivalent programs with 4 years full-time BMET work experience.
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding of electronic/mechanical devices.
  • Demonstrates a basic understanding and can communicate the use of basic/common patient care medical devices.
  • Demonstrates ability to locate and follow manufacturer documentation used to support devices.
  • Demonstrates understanding of computerized maintenance management systems.
  • Demonstrates ability to access public FDA 510k information about patient care medical devices.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of device recalls and their purpose.
  • Demonstrates understanding and supports customer service principles.
  • Is familiar with the operations and environment that they support (hospital, clinic, etc.).
  • Unrestricted ability to attend both on the job training as well as offsite and/or out of state training requiring travel that can include one or more overnight stays.
  • Demonstrates basic understanding of local, state, and federal regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of various types of patient care medical equipment along with associated risks.
  • Demonstrates basic understanding of patient care medical equipment, radiographic equipment, laboratory equipment, and network equipment.
  • Demonstrates basic terminology used in project management.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of current technology and its uses as it relates to healthcare.
  • Performs duties with little supervision or as needed.
  • BMET technicians have experience in a wide-range of electromechanical devices, computers, networks and software used in the delivery of healthcare.

Responsibilities

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
  • BS degree in (Electronics or Biomedical Engineering Technology) with 1 year fulltime BMET work experience, or AS degree in (Electronics or Biomedical Engineering Technology) with 2 years fulltime BMET work experience, or Completion of a U.S. military biomedical equipment technology program and two years fulltime BMET work experience, or High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs with 4 years full-time BMET work experience.

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Preferred:
  • AS Degree, or higher, with 2 years full time experience working in Biomedical Engineering.
  • Possess various current OEM certifications for the support and maintenance of patient care medical devices.
  • Knowledge of Joint Commission, CMMS, NJDOH, and etc. standards.
  • Experience in a hospital environment or medical equipment manufacturer with experience working on patient care equipment.
Licenses and Certifications Required:
  • Valid motor vehicle operator's license.
