Job summary

Northwest Texas Healthcare System is seeking a BIOMED ENGINEERING TECH - I to perform preventive maintenance and repairs on medical devices with minimal supervision. The role emphasizes safe patient care through reliable device operations and strong service to customers.

You will document work in CMMS, participate in continuing education, and travel to different sites as needed while adhering to regulatory standards. This is a technically oriented role within a large healthcare system.

Qualifications

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Professional certification preferred or 1–3 years of related experience.
  • Technical school or 1–2 year college preferred.
  • Military training acceptable as equivalence to formal education.

Responsibilities

Position: BIOMED ENGINEERING TECH - I
Position Summary

With very little supervision, UHS HTM BMET III performs: evaluations, repairs, inspections, and preventive maintenance on devices used in the care and treatment of patients at assigned UHS facilities.

  • Can perform preventive maintenance (PM) or operational verification procedure (OVP) on 75% of the device types in inventory.
  • Can repair 75% of the device types in inventory unassisted.

Focuses performance to ensure the safest and best possible patient experience. Delivers exceptional service to all customers that meets or exceeds all regulatory requirements and compliance. Assists in developing and strengthening facility and vendor relationships. Meets all established key performance indicator (KPI) requirements.

Job Duties/Responsibilities

Accountable for creating an environment and culture that focuses on fulfilling the organizations mission, vision and values.

Documents and maintains records of all work activities in the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS).

  • Can perform preventive maintenance (PM) or operational verification procedure (OVP) on 35% of the device types in inventory.
  • Can repair 35% of the device types in inventory unassisted.

Participates in continuing education. Participates in on-call schedule/rotation as directed. Routinely performs the corrective and preventive maintenance of devices and all related follow-up communications. Travels to other sites as directed/needed. Understands and complies with some regulatory requirements. Understands and properly operates test equipment required for the repair and maintenance of devices in the HTM Program. Follows established corporate and local policies and procedures pertinent to the position held. Participates in and/or facilitates in-service education to device users. Coordinates the ordering of replacement parts and/or service on devices. Ensures replacement parts/services are delivered and ensures accuracy of invoicing. Ensures all exchange parts ordered are returned for proper credit within the time frame specified.

Physical and Sensory Requirements

Moderate experience with healthcare technology management programs.

Moderate medical equipment knowledge (manufacturers, models, modalities, device types).

General understanding of regulatory requirements of medical devices (CMS, TJC, CLIA, AABB, NRC, State, Local).

Moderate computer skills (Microsoft products), Moderate experience with computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) products.

Local travel will be required periodically.
