Job summary

LifeSprout, a Johns Hopkins spinout advancing biomaterials for aesthetic and reconstructive medicine, is seeking an R&D Engineer to plan and execute product and process development. You will contribute across the development lifecycle, from formulation screening to verification and validation, collaborating with Quality, Regulatory, and Manufacturing to ensure compliant progress.

Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD in Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related field.
• 2+ years of experience in research and development or related technical areas.
• Experience with biomaterials, hydrogels, electrospinning, high-shear mixing, separations, and sterilization processes preferred.
• Hands-on experience designing experiments and analyzing data to support decisions.
• Knowledge of verification and validation principles and test method development.
• Strong technical writing and cross-functional collaboration skills.
• Familiarity with regulated development environments and quality systems is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Design and conduct experiments, analyze data, and interpret results to guide decisions.
• Plan and execute formulation screening studies for candidate materials and processing conditions.
• Perform process development to improve performance, manufacturability, robustness, and scalability.
• Prepare for and execute design verification and validation activities, including protocols and reports.
• Develop and document assays and test methods for research and product characterization.
• Troubleshoot technical issues and apply root-cause analysis in development and manufacturing support.
• Prepare clear technical documentation and summaries of findings.
• Collaborate with Quality, Regulatory, Manufacturing, and Process Engineering to align with program goals.
• Maintain development records in line with quality system requirements and good documentation practices.
• Present findings, recommendations, and updates to internal stakeholders.
