GAP Solutions Inc. in Bethesda, MD seeks a Biological Scientist to conduct laboratory research on the molecular biology of cancer, processing tumor specimens and preparing single-cell RNA sequencing libraries according to established protocols, coordinating with the CCR Single Cell Analysis Facility.

You will maintain human cell line cultures, perform collaborative studies, generate technical reports, participate in meetings, and assist with routine lab maintenance and trainings. A Ph.D.

Qualifications

• Ph.D. degree in Biology, Life Sciences or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 3 years' experience in cell biology, cancer biology or related research field.
• Excellent communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Conduct laboratory-based research on the molecular biology of cancer.
• Prepare single-cell suspensions and libraries for single-cell sequencing.
• Coordinate with CCR Single Cell Analysis Facility for library generation and sequencing.
• Process FFPE tissues into nucleic acids and single-cell libraries as needed.

Position Objective: The Biological Scientist will provide support services to satisfy the overall operational objectives of the National Cancer Institute within the National Institutes of Health.Duties and Responsibilities:Conduct laboratory-based research on the molecular biology of cancer. 1Receive tumor surgery specimens from the Lab of Pathology Tissue Procurement Facility, that are assigned for research. 2Prepare single-cell suspensions for single-cell RNA-sequencing following the lab-established protocol. 3Coordinate with the CCR Single Cell Analysis Facility for their library generation and sequencing.Extract DNA and/or RNA from FFPE tissue specimens.Process FFPE tissues into single-cell suspensions using the lab-established protocol, and generate single-cell NGS libraries based on the need of each project.Maintain human cell line cultures in order to help on-going research when necessary.Perform other collaborative studies that result in technical reports and information to advance cancer research.Assist with routine maintenance of the lab equipment and supplies.Attend regular lab/group meetings within and beyond the Lab of Pathology, Genomic Pathology Section.Participate in discussion, initial data analysis, and developing further investigations in light of findings, accomplishments, and future mission objectives.Complete all required and additional trainingsWork products and documents related to conducting laboratory-based research on the molecular biology of cancer; preparing single-cell suspensions for single-cell sequencing following the lab established protocol; extracting DNA and/or RNA from FFPE tissue specimens.Work products and documents related to receiving tumor surgery specimens from the Lab of PathologyTissue Procurement Facility, that are assigned for research; coordinating with the CCR Single Cell Analysis Facility for their library generation and sequencing.Work products and documents related to processing FFPE tissues into single-cell suspensions using the lab-established protocol, and generate single-cell NGS libraries based on the need of each project; maintaining human cell line cultures in order to help on-going research when necessaryWork products and documents related to performing other collaborative studies that result in technical reports and information to advance cancer research; assisting with routine maintenance of the lab equipment and supplies; participating in discussion, initial data analysis, and developing further investigations in light of findings, accomplishments, and future mission objectives.Basic Qualifications:Ph.D. degree in Biology, Life Sciences or a related disciplineMinimum of 3 yrs exp in cell biology, cancer biology, or related scientific research fieldSkilled in MS Office SuitePreferred Qualifications:Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with non-technical and technical staffDetail-oriented and possess strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects*This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required by this position.To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
