Job summary

Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center in Seattle is seeking a Bioinformatics Trainee to contribute to ongoing colorectal cancer progression studies using multi-omic approaches. This role offers hands-on experience in translational cancer biology, bioinformatics, and epigenetics.

You will work with researchers to select tools, analyze datasets, generate visuals, document methods, and help prepare figures for manuscripts and grants, under the guidance of faculty mentors.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in CS, bioinformatics, biology, genetics, computational biology, statistics or related discipline.
• Experience with data analysis in R, Python, or another relevant programming language.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a research team.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Self-motivated, perform in a highly independent manner, and possess strong interest in the biological sciences.

Responsibilities

• Identify appropriate bioinformatics tools for proposed research projects.
• Perform bioinformatics analysis on datasets.
• Conduct statistical analyses and generate visualizations to summarize findings.
• Document research methods, maintain accurate records, and contribute to data interpretation.
• Collaborate with faculty mentors and team members to develop research questions and analytical approaches.
• Provide support to Fred Hutch statisticians, bioinformaticians, and computational biologists.
• Participate in lab meetings, journal clubs, and research discussions.
• Provide figures and written sections describing methods and results for manuscripts, presentations, and grant applications.
