Job summary

Quest Diagnostics is seeking a Bioinformatics Scientist to lead design, development, and implementation of genomic data pipelines for MRD testing and other NGS assays. You will translate complex genomics analyses into production clinical workflows and collaborate closely with wet lab, clinical operations, R&D, and software teams to ensure reliable, scalable solutions.

Pay Range: $80,000.00 - $100,000.00 / year

Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation.

The bioinformatics scientist will serve as a key technical contributor in the design, development, and implementation of bioinformatics pipelines and analytical methods to support MRD testing and other NGS assays.

The ideal candidate will bring expertise in NGS data analysis, statistical modeling, and computational biology, with the ability to translate complex genomic data analysis to production clinical pipelines.

This role will involve close collaboration with wet lab scientists, clinical operations teams, R&D teams, and software engineers to ensure high quality, accurate, reliable, and scalable solutions for patient testing and reporting.

This professional will work in a hybrid capacity out of one of the following offices:

  • Baltimore, MD
  • Secaucus, NJ
  • Marlborough, MA
  • Lewisville, TX
Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and optimize bioinformatics pipelines for MRD test development and clinical deployment.
  • Analyze high throughput NGS data and drive performance and scientific insights to support research and development of on-market and upcoming products.
  • Collaborate with laboratory scientists, clinicians, and software engineers to validate and integrate bioinformatics solutions into clinical workflows.
  • Apply software engineering best practices, contributing to the scalability, robustness, and maintainability of bioinformatics pipelines.
  • Document and validate bioinformatics systems in compliance with regulatory and quality standards for clinical diagnostics.
  • Stay current with advancements in oncology genomics, liquid biopsy, and computational biology methods to inform innovation and future product enhancement.
  • Identify problems, investigate alternatives and recommend possible courses of action, contribute to technical decisions.
  • Prepare and present information at project meetings, scientific & technical meetings/conferences, and to customers.
Qualifications
Required Work Experience
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience analyzing NGS data
Preferred Work Experience
  • Within oncology diagnostics.
Physical and Mental Requirements
  • If applicable
Knowledge
  • Proficiency in bioinformatics pipeline workflow management, particularly Nextflow (preferred), Cromwell, or CWL.
  • Expertise developing pipelines for cloud-based computational environments (AWS, or similar).
  • Demonstrated ability to work with regulated clinical or diagnostic environments (e.g., CLIA, CAP, or FDA submissions)
Skills
  • Strong programming skills in Python, R, or similar scripting/data analysis languages.
  • Strong logical reasoning skills, with desire to drive solutions for some of the most challenging problems in the field of oncology diagnostics.

Education
  • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics, or related fields; or M.S. with extensive industry experience.
