Job summary

Zymo Research Corporation in California is seeking a highly motivated Bioinformatics specialist to join our Microbiome team. You will analyze microbiome data, develop pipelines and databases, and collaborate with colleagues to apply metagenomics approaches.

You will work with Linux, Python and R, run HPC workflows, and contribute to AI-assisted tools while ensuring reproducibility and clear reporting to customers.

Qualifications

• Holds a master’s or bachelor’s degree in Bioinformatics or related discipline.
• Experience with Linux/Unix and command-line scripting.
• Proficiency in Python and R for data analysis.
• Experience with HPC environments (SLURM) and/or AWS EC2/S3 is a plus.
• Demonstrate strong communication and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities

• Run bioinformatics pipelines or analyses and deliver reports to customers and partners.
• Follow SOPs strictly when processing data from clinical partners.
• Develop new microbiome pipelines, database curation, and portal development.
• Collaborate with wet lab scientists to troubleshoot microbiomic workflows.
• Optimize existing pipelines to reduce runtime and improve QC and report graphics.
