Job summary

Battelle Memorial Institute in San Antonio, TX is seeking a Biochemist I to join a dynamic team conducting cutting-edge research under a government contract. You will perform experiments rooted in Biochemistry or Immunology while following SOPs to produce data for analyses, reports, and client meetings.

The role requires at least a Bachelor's in Biochemistry or Immunology, plus hands-on experience with immune cell assays, ELISAs, and Western blots; strong communication and teamwork are essential

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Immunology, or related field.
• At least one year of professional experience analyzing immune cell functions and related assays.
• Ability to perform experiments per written procedures.
• Strong verbal and written communication.
• Self-motivated, fast-paced, multitasking.

• U.S. citizenship with ability to obtain government security clearances.
• Medically fit to work in lab, PPE, lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and non-routine laboratory procedures independently with guidance from senior scientists.
• Perform experiments in accordance with structured regulatory and quality frameworks (e.g., ISO 9001:2015).
• Support laboratory testing to develop new methods and/or adapt published assays to new purposes.
• Independently analyze and troubleshoot standard experiments.
• Assist in preparing technical data tables, figures, and interpretations for reports and presentations, peer reviewed publications, and client meetings.
• Interact professionally with internal and external clients, leadership, and team members.
• Assist with materials inventory/ordering, equipment maintenance, experimental scheduling, etc.
• Follow established safety guidelines to safely work with hazardous/infectious (RG2) materials.
• Some domestic travel is possible but not anticipated.

Job Summary

As a Biochemist I, you will be joining a dynamic team performing cutting edge research across multiple disciplines. Operating in a collaborative environment, you will provide invaluable support to a large government contract following standard operating procedures (SOPs) and project‑specific guidance to perform experiments rooted in Biochemistry or Immunology, conducting research and testing on basic and applied principles of microbial, human, and animal life, including anatomy and function of biological systems in simple and complex settings. The data that you collect will be used to perform technical evaluations and/or assessments of biologics, biological mechanisms, or biological properties.

This full-time position is contingent upon contract award and will be located in San Antonio, TX.

Responsibilities

• Independently analyze and troubleshoot standard experiments

Key Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, Immunology, or a related field

• At least one year of professional experience performing analysis of immune cell functions, cytokine expression, innate and adaptive responses, and/or cellular/humoral immunity (e.g., cell activation, fluorescent immunoassays, enzyme‑linked immunosorbent assays (ELISAs), SDS‑PAGE and Western blots, immunocytochemistry, fluorescent immunolabeling, immunoprecipitation, and/or flow immunoassay)

• Proven ability to conduct laboratory experiments in accordance with written procedures

• Good oral and written communication skills

• Self‑motivated and able to work in a fast‑paced environment with competing priorities

• Ability to work in a team environment

• Sole U.S. citizenship, with the ability to obtain and maintain required government security clearances as a condition of employment

• Sufficiently medically fit to work in the laboratory to perform assigned duties including the ability to wear personal protection equipment (PPE), lift up to 50 pounds, and work in the proximity of hazardous/infectious materials

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working within laboratory quality management systems (e.g., ISO 9001, ISO 17025, 21 CFR Part 58 GLP)

• Experience drafting experimental methods

• Active or previously held security clearance
