Job summary

AlphaGraphics is seeking a Bindery Specialist to join our tight-knit team in a full-time role. You will operate bindery equipment, inspect finished products for quality, and prepare items for shipping, contributing to efficient production and excellent customer service.

The role emphasizes collaboration, reliability, and hands-on operation of various finishing machines within a fast-paced printing environment. Experience is welcome, with training provided by the franchise.

Qualifications

  • Ability to read work orders and follow machine setup instructions.
  • Attention to detail to identify defects and quality issues.
  • Ability to apply general rules to specific production tasks.
  • Good math and measurement skills for trimming and alignment.
  • Ability to maintain daily production records and packing steps.

Responsibilities

  • Examine samples for binding defects and quality issues.
  • Read work orders to determine machine setup and specifications.
  • Adjust bindery equipment (knives, guides, rollers) for the required size.
  • Trim edges to size using cutting machines or hand cutters.
  • Stitch or glue endpapers and bindings using sewing and glue machines.
  • Monitor machines for malfunctions and performance adjustments.
  • Maintain daily production records on specified forms.
  • Prepare finished books for shipping and stacking on pallets.
  • Set up glue machines and control glue flow and speed.
  • Support overall team output and customer service quality.

Our tight-knit team in AlphaGraphics - US698 is actively seeking a Bindery Specialist to join us full time. Our Bindery Specialist is primarily responsible for operating various machines and equipment to finish products that have been printed so they can be delivered.

What We Expect Of You
  • Examine stitched, collated, bound, or unbound product samples for defects, such as imperfect bindings, ink spots, torn pages, loose pages, or loose or uncut threads.
  • Read work orders to determine instructions and specifications for machine set-up.
  • Install or adjust bindery machine devices, such as knives, guides, rollers, rounding forms, creasing rams, or clamps, to accommodate sheets, signatures, or books of specified sizes.
  • Trim edges of books to size, using cutting machines, book trimming machines, or hand cutters.
  • Stitch or glue endpapers, bindings, backings, or signatures, using sewing machines, glue machines, or glue and brushes.
  • Monitor machine operations to detect malfunctions or to determine whether adjustments are needed.
  • Maintain records, such as daily production records, using specified forms.
  • Prepare finished books for shipping by wrapping or packing books and stacking boxes on pallets.
  • Set up or operate glue machines by filling glue reservoirs, turning switches to activate heating elements, or adjusting glue flow or conveyor speed.
  • Other essential functions are needed to provide the highest quality customer service and product output.
