Job summary

Actalent is seeking a VDC Specialist to translate design intent into BIM fabrication models for mechanical and plumbing systems in Apex, NC. This contract-to-hire role requires 5+ years of hands-on BIM modeling experience and strong coordination with engineers, contractors, and field teams.

The candidate will develop LOD400 models, produce detailed shop drawings, mentor junior staff, and contribute to project coordination meetings. Onsite work with competitive hourly pay and benefits.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience with installation or 3D modeling of mechanical or plumbing systems.
• Knowledge of BIM related software.
• Prior experience working at a mechanical contractor (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Translate design intent into BIM fabrication models for mechanical and plumbing systems.
• Produce LOD400 BIM for mechanical and plumbing systems with engineers and managers.
• Coordinate with General Contractor and subs to achieve spatial coordination of all trades.
• Attend weekly coordination meetings onsite or virtual.
• Generate RFIs for design clarification.
• Create detailed shop drawings for fabrication and installation.
• Annotate shop, hanger, and sleeve drawings.
• Export hanger and sleeve coordinates for field layout.
• Communicate fabrication intent to field personnel through drawings.
• Mentor and train Junior VDC Specialists on modeling and collaboration software.
• Provide on-the-job training on fabrication drawings and BOMs, labels, and reports.
• Work with team to meet project schedules.
• Maintain training and continued education for the team.
• Provide input on hardware and software requirements.

Job description

Responsibilities

• Translate design intent contract documents or 3D design models of Plumbing, Mechanical and HVAC systems into fabrication and installation detail Building Information Models utilizing BIM fabrication modelling software.
• Work with engineers and managers to produce LOD400 BIM for mechanical and plumbing systems.
• Work with General Contractor and other subcontractors to achieve spatial coordination of all trades.
• Attend weekly coordination meetings, either onsite or virtually, to achieve spatial coordination of all trades.
• Generate RFI's to be submitted to the design team when required.
• Create detailed shop drawings for the purposes of fabrication and installation of associated trades.
• Create and annotate shop drawings, hanger drawings, and sleeve drawings.
• Create and export hanger and sleeve coordinates to be utilized by the robotic total station layout team for field layout.
• Communicate with field personnel to ensure that fabrication and installation intent is clearly communicated on shop and spool drawings.
• Mentor and train Junior VDC Specialists on the use of modelling and collaboration software.
• Provide on the job training on the creation of fabrication and installation drawings and documents including bills of materials, pipe cut lists, fabrication labels, hanger labels, and reports.
• Work with other team members to complete drawings and models as required to meet project schedules.
• Maintain training and continued education for incumbent and team to continually improve accuracy and productivity.
• Provide input to management regarding both hardware and software requirements to perform duties.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD, Autodesk Fabrication CADMEP, and Autodesk Navisworks.
• Knowledge of BIM related software
• 5 or more years of experience with installation or 3D modeling of mechanical or plumbing systems.
• Prior experience working at a mechanical contractor (preferred)

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Apex, NC.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $70.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
