Job summary

HDR is seeking a BIM Section Manager to lead a team of BIM professionals on diverse design projects. You will create designs, supervise BIM staff, and ensure project delivery with advanced 3D modeling and coordination practices.

You’ll manage operations within the BIM section, mentor staff, ensure quality control, and collaborate with clients and contractors to meet project goals. A technical degree and extensive BIM experience are required for this senior role.

Qualifications

  • Technical degree or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • 5+ years digital design (BIM element authoring) and 5+ years digital delivery (model management) experience.
  • Comprehensive understanding of all discipline relations and operations of building systems.
  • Advanced skillset of 3D design software and document management infrastructure.
  • Advanced skillset of 3D Coordination tools.
  • Advanced skillset of Microsoft Office products and communication tools.
  • Familiar with industry standards and practices, along with discipline codes and specifications.
  • Familiar with basic automation and programming applications for efficiencies.
  • Familiar with 3D design software add‑ins and supporting applications.
  • Familiar with content creation and management concepts.
  • Superior client service, communication, and presentation skills are essential.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical and problem‑solving skills to effectively serve as a first line of technical support.
  • Excellent communication skills, attention to detail and leadership traits are essential.
  • Must have strong organizational skills to establish priorities between technical support requests and project work.
  • Must be enthusiastic, energetic, and an excellent work ethic.

Responsibilities

  • Create designs independently under broad direction from the Project Engineer or Project Manager on various design projects.
  • Direct preparation of drawings by other BIM Technicians of lesser experience, or take direct supervisory responsibility for BIM staff as needed
  • Complete projects with distinctive design features that differ significantly from BIM Technician precedents as needed
  • Work with clients or contractor representatives as needed
  • Take responsibility for operations within the BIM section including staff development, morale, quality control and marketing support
  • Take responsibility for production on projects in addition to management responsibilities
  • Take administrative responsibility for staff and technical service functions, and lead and coordinate services with other sections
  • See that all work is planned, organized, controlled and evaluated through proactive project management system
  • Implement, monitor and support company policy
  • Select, train, develop and manage technical personnel
