The Orange County Health Department has an opening for a Billing Technician. The work involves the responsibility for reviewing medical claims for accuracy, researching denied claims and providing additional or corrected information/coding to resubmit for payment. Work is performed under the general direction of the Patient Accounts Manager with considerable leeway to exercise independent judgment within the framework of applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures in the performance of duties, both in terms of planning and accomplishing work, and in making decisions regarding customer needs and requests and conducting project assignments. Supervision over others is not required of this position. Position does related work as required.

* A pre-employment drug screen and background check is required.Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate degree in medical billing and coding and (2) two years of work experience in medical office billing and coding of claims, use of medical terminology, electronic medical records and performing research; OR
An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined above. A higher degree does not substitute for work experience.
Experience with EPIC (Electronic Health Record) is strongly preferred.
Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver’s license issued by the State of North Carolina for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
