Emergicon is seeking an experienced Billing Specialist to support EMS billing, ensuring accurate, timely claims and compliance. This role starts in-office with potential for hybrid or remote work after onboarding.

You will research, code, and file claims using ICD-10 and HCPCS, verify payer information, and follow up on rejected claims; a strong eye for detail and professional communication are essential.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Six months of medical billing experience required.
• Six months of ICD-10 and HCPC coding experience required.
• CAC certification preferred.
• EMS billing experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Obtain run reports (trip notes, PCRs) for previous days' transports.
• Code claims with ICD-10 and HCPCS codes.
• Review charts for medical necessity.
• Verify payer information and demographics.
• Enter claims into the billing system and track logs.

We are looking for an experienced Billing Specialistto join our billing team. In this role, you’ll help EMS organizations byensuring accurate, timely billing while enjoying opportunities for professionalgrowth and development. This position is responsible for researching, coding, andfiling accurate claims in a timely manner while ensuring compliance with payerand regulatory requirements.

This role begins as anin-office position and is eligible for hybrid or fully remote work followingthe successful completion of a 90-day onboarding period.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES ANDRESPONSIBILITIES

• Obtain all run reports (trip notes, PCRs, etc.) bypaper or electronically for previous days’ transports


• Code claims with appropriate ICD-10 and HCPC codes


• Review each chart for medical necessity


• Request hospital face sheet/demographics, ifapplicable, to obtain payer or demographic information


• Verify payer information on all transports


• Check appropriate insurance websites and/or contactthe patient on all private pay accounts prior to billing


• Enter all claims into the billing system


• Match claims billed against all appropriate logs
  
• Follow up on rejected and failed claims as needed


• Recognize payer trends and report to management


• Perform other job-related duties as assigned

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or GED required


• Minimum of six (6) months of medical billingexperience required


• EMS billing experience preferred


• Six months of ICD-10 and HCPC coding experiencerequired


• CAC certification preferred

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

This position involves extended periods of sitting or standing at a desk whileworking on a computer and performing repetitive tasks. Occasional lifting of upto 10 pounds may be required.
