Job summary

Electromed, Inc. in Minnesota is seeking a Billing Specialist to submit patient bills, follow up on open accounts, and ensure timely claim submission. You will resolve denials and support adjudication while coordinating with Reimbursement and Accounting to optimize cash flow.

Two years post-secondary education or equivalent experience is required, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and insurance claim software. The role offers a flexible hybrid/remote work environment and competitive pay.

• Experience with insurance billing/reimbursement, Durable Medical Equipment (DME) preferred.
• Experience with third-party and government payers.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs: Outlook, Excel, Word.
• Experience with insurance claim software.
• Experience with professional claim submission preferred.
• High attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to handle multiple priorities.
• Self-starter, motivated.
• Ability to follow through professionally when working with various payers.
• Ability to work independently and as a contributing team member.
• Knowledge of insurance requirements and ability to evaluate medical justification to support appropriate reimbursement.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Submit patient bills to appropriate payers and follow up on open accounts.
• Ensure timely claim submission and follow-up.
• Reconcile claims and resolve issues to support adjudication.
• Respond knowledgeably to denial issues when working with insurance companies.
• Communicate effectively with internal customers, including Reimbursement and Accounting Departments.
• Ensure claims are processed and followed up in a timely manner to meet AR aging and cash receipt goals.
• Review patient statements to ensure accuracy.
• Complete payment reconciliation according to contracted payer fee schedules.
• Work to achieve monthly team goals.
• Educate patients on complex billing situations.
• Accurately record information to internal systems.
• Complete other miscellaneous tasks as needed to help support the reimbursement team.

The Opportunity:

The Billing Specialist submits patient bills to the appropriate payers and follows up efficiently on open accounts in a timely and accurate manner. This role also ensures timely claim submission and follow-up, reconciles claims, and resolves issues to support appropriate adjudication. The Billing Specialist responds knowledgeably to a wide range of complex denial issues when working with insurance companies.

• Review billing files for appropriate modifiers, diagnosis codes, patient demographic information and insurance prior to submission

The compensation range for this position is $22.00 to $30.00 hourly with the final agreed upon rate to be based on individual experience, skills, and qualifications.
