Job summary

Pulmonary Medicine Associates (PMA) in the Sacramento area is seeking a full-time Billing Representative to join our busy practice. The role offers competitive salary and generous benefits including medical, dental, vision, life, LTD, PTO, and a 401k match.

Must demonstrate accuracy, confidentiality and strong customer service in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities include claims research, follow-up in Epic EMR, and handling inquiries by phone while maintaining patient and payer

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is required.
• CPC or equivalent certification preferred.
• Three plus years of medical billing experience preferred.
• Knowledge of CPT and ICD-10 terminology and coding.
• Experience with Medi-Cal, Medicare, worker’s compensation and HMO/PPO plans.
• Strong computer skills including Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

• Performs claims research, appeals and follow up using Epic EMR.
• Follows up on accounts until balance is zero or sent to collections.
• Answers telephone and provides information as requested.
• Performs other work as required.

Pulmonary Medicine Associates (PMA) has been treating patients in the greater Sacramento area since 1973 and is a unique and exciting place to work. With specialties that include critical care, infectious disease, palliative care, pulmonology, pediatric pulmonology, and sleep medicine. We are a busy practice with over 80 providers and 2 outpatient clinic locations.

Duties Include:

• Performs claims research, appeals and related follow up using the Epic EMR.
• Follows up on accounts until no balance or turned over for collection.
• Assists with answering the telephone and provides information as requested.
• Performs other work as required.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• High school diploma or GED.
• CPC or equivalent certification preferred.
• Three plus years related work experience in a medical billing environment preferred.
• Knowledge of medical terminology, including CPT and ICD-10.
• Knowledge of medical billing procedures, coding, Medi-Cal, Medicare, worker’s compensation and HMO/PPO insurance programs.
• Knowledge of self pay and collection procedures.
• Knowledge of in-patient and out-patient professional billing.
• Excellent phone etiquette and verbal communication skills.
• Strong computer skills, including Excel and Word proficiency, and strong math skills.
• Strong customer service skills and ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, patients and the general public.
• Strong detail orientation, ability to perform research and ability to examine documents for accuracy and completeness.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
• Ability to work independently and juggle multiple priorities.
• Must be able to accurately type 45 WPM.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

Must be able to work in a climate controlled, office environment. Sit for extended periods of time. Ability to read and write in order to process paperwork. Manual dexterity needed for keyboarding and other repetitive office tasks. Vision must be good or corrected to normal to perform normal job duties. Hearing must be good to have the ability to understand information to perform job duties.
