Northwell Health in Danbury, CT, invites applications for a Billing and Records Specialist supporting the Behavioral Health Clinic. This position operates on a hybrid schedule, with Mondays through Fridays 8:00 AM–4:30 PM, and remote work on Thursdays.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior third-party insurance billing experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • AAPC coding certificate required or preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Review billing encounter forms and question noncompliance with providers.
  • Maintain completeness and compliance of medical records for DMHAS.
  • Participate in chart audits and performance improvement projects.
  • Provide reception duties and pleasant, effective communications.
  • Answer phones, route calls, take messages and convey information accurately.
  • Weekly productivity reviews for clinicians.
  • May be cross trained to cover across the service line.
  • Fulfill all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Hybrid Schedule: Mon-Friday, 8:00AM-4:30PM (Thursdays are remote)

Supports Behavioral Health Clinic to include charge entry-billing, data collection and entry for state grant, chart review and compliance, receptionist and scheduling of new and existing patients.

Responsibilities:
  • Reviews each billing encounter form. Uses knowledge of coding to question providers on noncompliance issues on form. Works with providers to resolve issues.
  • Responsible for the completeness and compliance of medical records at the New Milford Behavioral Health Department. Responsible for maintaining the patient listing database (DMHAS-Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services).
  • Participates in performance improvement projects related to chart compliance. Performs chart audits to assure that all requirements are met.
  • Provides reception to customers and communicates pleasantly and effectively.
  • Answers phones, routes calls, takes messages, conveys information and assures accurate communication.
  • Weekly productivity review for clinicians.
  • Catchment Area Council Representative for NMBH - Grant Obligation.
  • State Local Mental Health Authority Provider Representative for NMBH.
  • May be cross trained to provide coverage across the service line as needed.
  • Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
    Education/Skills Experience:
  • Required: Computer, phone, dealing with potentially emotionally compromised patients. Knowledge of coding procedures.
  • Minimum Experience: three years
  • Desired: Bachelors Degree preferred.
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Prior third-party insurance billing experience, required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively
  • Coding certificate: AAPC required
