Job summary

Independence Blue Cross is seeking an Accounting/Billing specialist to manage self-funded invoicing, maintenance, and cash applications. The role involves reconciling claims to billing totals and to the general ledger, while ensuring accurate weekly and monthly account maintenance.

The ideal candidate has 2–4 years in Accounting/Finance or Billing, a healthcare finance background is preferred, and strong Excel/Office skills with attention to detail. Android/iOS device for Authenticator required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance preferred or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum 2–4 years working within Accounting/Finance or Billing department
• Finance experience in a Healthcare Industry preferred
• Ability to think critically and resolve problems
• Strong attention to detail and the ability to succeed in a high paced environment
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to multitask and prioritize activities
• Must have an Android or iOS device compatible with the Microsoft Authenticator app.

Responsibilities

• Perform self-funded billing account maintenance, invoicing, and cash application.
• Reconcile claims data to billing totals and billing totals to general ledger.
• Maintain and reconcile assigned customer accounts weekly and monthly.
• Document customer issues (over/under payments, setup issues).
• Escalate setup and billing issues to management.
• Prepare ACH request forms for automated payment customers.
• Coordinate with Corporate Accounting on GL posting errors.
• Participate in continuous process improvements.

Job description

• Responsible for performing the invoicing, reconciling and maintenance of self-funded customer accounts
• Perform Self-Funded Billing Account Maintenance, Invoicing, and Cash Application as directed by the Supervisor
• Participate in continuous process improvements efforts
• Prepare ACH request forms for automated payment customers
• Responsible for ensuring the assigned portfolio of customer accounts are maintained and reconciled on a weekly and monthly basis
• Responsible for reconciling claims data to billing totals, and billing totals to accounting (general ledger)
• Responsible for cash application at the invoice level for assigned customer accounts
• Document specific customer issues (over/under payments, setup issues, etc.)
• Escalate setup and billing issues to appropriate levels of management
• Coordinate with Corporate Accounting on resolution of general ledger posting error
• Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance preferred or equivalent work experience
• Minimum 2 - 4 years working within Accounting/Finance or Billing department
• Finance experience in a Healthcare Industry preferred
