Openlands in Chicago seeks a Public Relations & Content Specialist to tell stories of land, conservation, and community impact. The role collaborates across teams, guiding media engagement and multilingual storytelling in English and Spanish.

As part of External Affairs, you will lead media outreach, develop content across formats, mentor staff on media opportunities, and strengthen Openlands’ brand presence through strategic outreach and community partnerships.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years of experience in PR, journalism, or communications with bilingual media engagement.
• Fluency in Spanish (oral and written) preferred.
• Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills in both English and Spanish.
• Experience cultivating and stewarding press and influencer relationships.
• Strong organizational skills with multi-project handling.
• Familiarity with content creation tools (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, CapCut).
• Knowledge of conservation or nonprofit sectors preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel to program sites and events.

Responsibilities

• Develop and pitch story ideas, press releases, and alerts to outlets in English and Spanish.
• Build relationships with bilingual journalists and content creators to expand reach.
• Provide media training and coordinate interviews and press events.
• Create original content across formats and manage digital media assets.
• Analyze media metrics and report on reach and impact.
• Collaborate across teams to gather stories and ensure bilingual outreach.
