The Healthy Eating Unit seeks an enthusiastic and detail-oriented individual to assist with implementing the Get the Good Stuff program, including program promotion, recruitment, enrollment, and survey administration. This position will primarily occur at supermarkets across NYC, with periodic visits to the NYC Health Department office in Long Island City, Queens, for data entry and other projects as needed. This is a temporary part-time role, 21 hours over 3 days weekly.
The Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention (BCDP) strives to reduce the burden of chronic diseases, including heart disease, obesity, and cancer, among New Yorkers. The Outreach Associate position sits in the Healthy Eating Unit, which aims to promote healthy eating by shaping the environment and building on New Yorkers' resources, knowledge, and skills. This position supports the Get the Good Stuff Program, which aims to make fruits and vegetables more affordable for New Yorkers participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) by providing a dollar-for-dollar match on SNAP purchases of eligible fruits, vegetables, and beans at select independent grocery stores. For every dollar that participants spend using SNAP/EBT on eligible fruits, vegetables, and beans, they get a matching dollar (up to $10.00 per day) that can be used for their next purchase of eligible produce.
