Job summary

A child welfare organization is seeking a Bilingual Lead Medical Coordinator to oversee health services and coordinate medical care for children. This role requires a Licensed RN with a bachelor's degree and bilingual fluency in English and Spanish. Responsibilities
  • Perform all work in a manner consistent with NYAP’s mission, values, and philosophies.
  • Provide children with a positive and appropriate medical environment.
  • Oversee health services and coordinate timely, appropriate medical care for children in care.
  • Supervise other Medical Coordinators and provide training on medical, dental, and public health topics relevant to pediatrics, adolescent, and migrant health.
  • Develop and maintain policies and procedures for confidential health record management, triage, emergency response, environmental health and safety, and post‑release health care planning/care coordination.
  • Ensure confidentiality of health records and adherence to NYAP, state, and funder guidelines for protected health information (PHI).
  • Communicate health needs to case managers and clinicians.
  • Schedule health care appointments and assist with transportation and accompaniment of children.
  • Obtain medical clearances, prepare treatment authorization requests (TARs), and ensure payment follow‑up.
  • Secure qualified interpretation and translation services as needed.
  • Participate in intakes, discharges, and documentation of medical records, including scanning and uploading to portals.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure comprehensive care and provider approval.
  • Report medical emergencies via SIR/CLE process per NYAP policies.
  • Escalate medical concerns to supervisors and relevant authorities as appropriate.
  • Provide education and support to foster parents, including authorization and ID documents for medical services.
  • Maintain medicine cabinets and first aid kits with up‑to‑date supplies.
  • Offer in‑service training on medication administration, CPR, and first aid.
  • Maintain CPR/First Aid trainer certifications.
  • Assist program leadership during auditing processes.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) with a bachelor’s degree or higher in a health‑related field.
  • Bilingual fluency in English and Spanish (required).
  • Minimum 1 year of employment in public health or a healthcare setting with demonstrated experience in care coordination, health administration, or direct clinical care.
  • At least 1 year of experience working with children and/or adolescents in a child welfare or social service setting.
  • Valid driver’s license, excellent driving record, safe and clean personal vehicle, and current automobile insurance.
  • Ability to complete required agency training programs.
  • Proficiency with desktop and laptop computers, smartphones, tablets, printers, fax machines, and software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases.
Other Skills
  • Experience scheduling and documenting medical appointments.
  • Understanding of the needs of the immigrant population and ability to provide a safe environment for program children.
  • Ability to maintain liaisons with community health providers and expand the community health network.
  • Willingness to work non‑traditional hours and be available for on‑call phone consultations as needed.
Physical Demands
  • Use of manual dexterity, tactile, visual, and audio acuity.
  • Repetitive motion, prolonged periods of sitting and standing, and sustained visual and mental demands.
  • Occasional lifting (up to 25 pounds), bending, pulling, and carrying.
  • Frequent travel and driving while seated for extended periods, with frequency varying by program demands.
