Job summary

Pasco School District No. 1 is seeking a Bilingual Instructional Paraeducator for the Columbia River Elementary Resource Room.

The role involves supporting teachers with instruction, data collection on progress and behavior, and applying trauma-informed strategies to maintain a calm classroom. The ideal candidate is bilingual (Spanish), has a high school diploma or higher education credits, and can meet district requirements including paraeducator assessments.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Bilingual and/or Biliterate (Spanish) required.
  • Must meet one or more of the following: Associate degree or 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits or passing ETS paraeducator assessment.
  • Prior paraeducator experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience with students with special needs preferred but not required.
  • Valid First aid and/or CPR card or willing to obtain.
  • K-12 school setting experience preferred but not required.
  • CPI trained or willing to attend training.

Responsibilities

  • Use trauma-informed strategies to build safe, supportive relationships and maintain routines.
  • Accurately collect and document data related to academic progress, behavior, and IEP goals.
  • Follow behavior intervention plans and CPI strategies to de-escalate behaviors.
  • Assist in delivering teacher-directed instruction and reinforcement in academic, behavioral, and social-emotional areas.
  • Administer first aid to provide emergency care.
  • Provide one-on-one or group instruction.
  • Assist with classroom management and prep materials for lessons.
  • Provide supervision during arrival/departure and support for mobility-related tasks.
  • Report misconduct and assist with safety procedures.
  • Assist with light cleaning and setup for activities.
  • Attend required paraeducator training hours.
  • Maintain student records in data systems.
  • Translate verbal/written information for staff and families.
  • Assist with diapering, toileting, and related care as needed.
  • Participate in district meetings for feedback and direction.
  • Supervise students to ensure a safe learning environment.

SALARY: $21.38 - $23.72

Salary Schedules

AA Degree - $0.50/hour extra

BA Degree $0.75/hour extra

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Use trauma-informed strategies to build safe, supportive relationships, maintain consistent routines, and respond to student needs with empathy and emotional regulation support.
  • Accurately collect and document data related to academic progress, behavior, and IEP goals, ensuring timely communication with the supervising teacher and support team.
  • Follow established behavior intervention plans and apply CPI-approved strategies to de-escalate challenging behaviors, ensuring a safe and structured learning environment for all students.
  • Assist in delivering teacher-directed instruction and reinforcement in academic, behavioral, and social-emotional areas in both individual and small group formats, adapting support to meet student needs.
  • Administers first aid to provide emergency care.
  • Provide one-on-one instruction or group instruction.
  • Assist classroom teacher and/or building administrator(s) with classroom management.
  • Assist with preparing materials needed to conduct lessons.
  • Provide support or supervision during student arrival and/or departure to include but not limited to cross walk duty, transit to bus, transit from bus, unloading and/or loading wheelchair bound students.
  • Assist with reporting misconduct on school property and/or school bus route(s).
  • Assist with light cleaning, issuing of equipment for necessary activities, setting up, taking down and/or supervising students during age-appropriate games/activities.
  • Adhere to District safety policies and/or procedures as well as required program guidelines.
  • Attend and complete annual required training hours for paraeducator certification.
  • Provide support, supervision and/or assistance administering tests, quizzes, exams, or any assessment as directed by teacher for the purpose of evaluating student progress or learning.
  • Maintain accurate and efficient student records within student information management system(s).
  • Translate verbal and/or written information for the purpose of assisting students, district personnel, parents and/or guardians.
  • Assist with needs related to diapering, tube feeding, toileting, catheters, and/or lifting. Additional pay provided if performing these duties per CBA.
  • Participate in District meetings to communicate information and gain feedback and/or direction on a variety of issues.
  • Assists with supervision of students to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.

NON-ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist other personnel as may be required to support them with the completion of their work activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
  • Assist with contacting parents and/or guardians regarding student behavior and academic progress.
  • Willingness to review materials provided by district personnel and/or willingness to attend college classes for the purpose of improving instructional skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
  • Bilingual and/or Biliterate (Spanish), required.
  • Must meet one or more of the following:
    • Associates degree (AAS, AA) or higher;
    • Earned 72 college quarter credits or 48 semester credits in college level 100 or higher courses;
    • Passing score onthe Educational Testing Service (ETS) paraeducator assessment.
  • Prior paraeducator experience, college, or on-the job experience preferred but not required.
  • Experience working with students who are special needs preferred but not required.
  • Valid First aid and/or CPR card for infants and children or willing to obtain.
  • Prior experience in a K-12 school setting preferred but not required.
  • Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) trained or willing to attend training.

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND TESTING:

  • Passing score on district administered bilingual test.
