Job summary

Pasco School District 1 District Wide is hiring a Bilingual Instructional Paraeducator for Kindergarten TWDL/OWDL. This itinerant, district-wide position supports classroom teachers with instruction, supervision, and materials preparation across multiple sites in Pasco, WA.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
• Bilingual and/or Biliterate (Spanish), required.
• One of: Associates degree or 72 credits or passing paraeducator assessment.
• Paraeducator experience preferred but not required.
• Experience with students with special needs preferred but not required.
• Valid First aid and/or CPR for infants/children or willing to obtain.
• Prior experience in a K-12 setting preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Administers first aid to provide emergency care.
• Provide one-on-one or group instruction.
• Assist classroom teacher and/or building administrator with classroom management.
• Assist with preparing materials needed to conduct lessons.
• Provide support or supervision of students during arrival/departure, transit, meals, recess, and more.
• Assist with reporting misconduct on school property and/or bus routes.
• Assist with light cleaning, equipment handling, setting up and supervising activities.
• Attend required training hours for paraeducator certification.
• Assist with administering tests or assessments as directed by teacher.
• Maintain accurate student records in information systems.
• Translate information for students, district personnel, parents, guardians.
• Assist with diapering, toileting, and lifting as needed per union contract.
• Participate in District meetings to communicate information.
• Distribute documents to staff, students, and parents.
• Supervise students to ensure safe, productive learning.

HOURS: 6.00 /day Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday

up to 1.00 hour per day will be assigned based on building need, Monday - Friday TEMPORARYduty assignment.

SALARY: $21.38 - $23.72

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Administers first aid to provide emergency care.
• Provide one-on-one instruction or group instruction.
• Assist classroom teacher and/or building administrator(s) with classroom management.
• Assist with preparing materials needed to conduct lessons.
• Provide support or supervision of students, including but not limited to arrival and/or departure, cross walk duty, transit to bus, transit from bus, recess, breakfast/lunch time, hall monitoring, unloading and/or loading wheelchair bound students.
• Assist with reporting misconduct on school property and/or school bus route(s).
• Assist with light cleaning, issuing of equipment for necessary activities, setting up, taking down and/or supervising students during age-appropriate games/activities.
• Adhere to District safety policies and/or procedures as well as required program guidelines.
• Attend and complete annual required training hours for paraeducator certification.
• Provide support, supervision and/or assistance administering tests, quizzes, exams, or any assessment as directed by teacher for the purpose of evaluating student progress or learning.
• Maintain accurate and efficient student records within student information management system(s).
• Translate verbal and/or written information for the purpose of assisting students, district personnel, parents and/or guardians.
• Assist with needs related to diapering, tube feeding, toileting, catheters, and/or lifting. Additional pay provided if performing these duties per CBA.
• Participate in District meetings to communicate information and gain feedback and/or direction on a variety of issues.
• Distribute documents and materials to appropriate staff, students and/or parents.
• Assists with supervision of students to ensure a safe and productive learning environment.

NON-ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist other personnel as may be required to support them with the completion of their work activities.
• Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.
• Assist with contacting parents and/or guardians regarding student behavior and academic progress.
• CPI trained or willingness to attend training.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High School Diploma or equivalent, required.
• Bilingual and/or Biliterate (Spanish), required.
• Must meet one or more of the following:
• Associates degree (AAS, AA) or higher;
• Earned 72 college quarter credits or 48 semester credits in college level 100 or higher courses;
• Passing score onthe Educational Testing Service (ETS) paraeducator assessment.
• Prior paraeducator experience, college, or on-the job experience preferred but not required.
• Experience working with students who are special needs preferred but not required.
• Valid First aid and/or CPR card for infants and children or willing to obtain.
• Prior experience in a K-12 school setting preferred but not required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of general office equipment such as computers, copiers, laminators, telephones, scanners, paper cutters, book covering materials, and/or step ladders.
• Knowledge in proper use of English in both written and verbal forms, use of correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
• Maintain detailed and accurate records.
• Skill in operating standard office equipment including basic computer applications.
• Ability to sit and/or stand for prolonged periods.
• Understand and conduct verbal and written instruction.
• Knowledge and/or experience working with children with behavioral disabilities.
• Knowledge of de-escalation strategies.
• Knowledge of car seats, BESI seats and/or seat belts.
• Ability to securely strap in wheelchair(s).
• Knowledge of general cleaning supplies and usages.
• Ability to establish a plan to address student behavior.

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND TESTING

• Passing score on district administered bilingual test.
