Job summary

McAllen Independent School District Rayburn Elementary School in McAllen, TX seeks an Instructional Assistant, Bilingual Elementary to support Emergent Bilingual (EB) students during daily classroom activities. You will assist teachers with instructional materials and classroom displays, and help manage administrative tasks tied to bilingual programs.

The role requires English/Spanish fluency, strong interpersonal skills, and a background in EL work.

Qualifications

• Associate degree or a minimum of 48 college hours, required.
• Paraprofessional Certification, preferred (required upon employment).
• Proficiency in English and Spanish; ability to read, write, and communicate clearly in writing and orally in both languages.
• One year of experience in a school setting preferred.
• Background in working with EL students preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in supervising EB students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom.
• Serve as a resource to principals and teachers in bilingual program implementation for EB students.
• Work with individual EB students or small groups on instructional exercises.
• Assist in preparing instructional materials and displays for EB students.
• Keep teachers informed of any special needs or problems of individual students.
• Maintain an orderly classroom environment consistent with high expectations.
• Make appropriate parent contacts within academic guidelines.
• Refer students to pupil services when needed (counselor, social worker, etc.).
• Maintain confidentiality and ethical standards regarding student information.
• Follow school rules and policies set by the district and state authorities.
• Assist in inventory and maintenance of equipment.
• Participate in in-service training as assigned.
• Uphold confidentiality and discretion in all duties.
• Follow McAllen ISD customer service standards.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.
