Job summary

The School District of Philadelphia seeks a Bilingual Counseling Assistant (Arabic) to serve as a cultural broker and linguistic bridge between school staff, students, parents/guardians, and the community. You will facilitate communication and ensure multilingual families access services and opportunities.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated knowledge of social, cultural and educational needs of multilingual students and families.
• Basic computer knowledge, i.e. Microsoft Suite.
• Fluent speaking, reading and writing in English and the designated foreign language.
• Interpret oral and written information.
• Prepare and maintain records.
• Coordinate outreach services to immigrant and refugee families.

Responsibilities

• Facilitates communication between school staff, students and parents/guardians with accurate interpretation.
• Collaborates with ESOL and teachers to interpret rubrics and instructions for classroom activities.
• Provides ongoing communication about academic performance, attendance and behavior.
• Supports post-secondary planning through counseling discussions with students and families.
• Distributes translated documents to families and ensures accessibility of information.
