Qualifications

  • Associate degree in child development or related field.
  • Knowledge of typical and atypical development in children and adolescents.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience with children.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.
  • CPR certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a developmentally appropriate, trauma-informed environment for children.
  • Ensure children's physical safety and emotional well-being.
  • Guide and assist families during visits.
  • Observe child behavior and intervene as directed by child life specialists.
  • Enter child life data into the electronic case tracking system.
  • Sort, inventory, and organize donations and materials.
  • Support child life students and volunteers and participate in local trainings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

  • Provide a developmentally appropriate and trauma-informed environment ensuring children’s physical safety and emotional well-being
  • Create an inclusive environment demonstrating equity, inclusion, accessibility, and belonging
  • Provide culturally competent play materials and activities that encourage positive coping skills
  • Prepare children for appointments while meeting developmental, emotional, and educational needs
  • Guide and assist families throughout their visit
  • Observe child behavior and emotional responses, providing intervention and support as directed by child life specialists
  • Facilitate child-directed play and socialization
  • Build rapport with children and families, including returning families
  • Communicate significant information and behavioral changes or concerns to appropriate team members
  • Contact appropriate staff in crisis situations
  • Arrange food and comforting items for children receiving child life services
  • Enter child life data into the electronic case tracking system
  • Sort and organize donations and fulfill requests
  • Inventory child life materials and food and order items as necessary
  • Participate in local networking and training opportunities
  • Provide guidance and support to child life students and volunteers
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Minimum educational requirement of an associate’s degree in a child development, family studies, or human services field
  • General knowledge and understanding of typical and atypical growth and development in children and adolescents
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working with children of all ages and backgrounds
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • CPR Certification preferred
