Job summary

El Carmen Catholic Church in San Antonio, TX seeks a faith-filled, organized, and bilingual Assistant Coordinator of Religious Education to support its catechetical programs. This part-time role works closely with the Pastor and the Coordinator of Religious Education to serve children, youth, families, and catechists with hospitality and pastoral care.

Qualifications

• Catholic in good standing with the Church.
• Bilingual in English and Spanish.
• Minimum 3 years in catechesis or parish ministry or teaching preferred.
• High school diploma required; bachelor’s degree or theology/catechesis coursework preferred.
• Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Completion of Safe Environment training or willingness to complete.

Responsibilities

• Maintain regular communication with the Pastor and Coordinator of Religious Education.
• Assist with class schedules, room assignments, attendance records, sacramental preparation lists, Mass attendance, service hours, and parent communication logs.
• Prepare classrooms with materials, prayer spaces, and supplies.
• Help create semester and yearly program calendars.
• Support catechists with guidance, materials, and orientation to parish procedures.
• Attend bi-monthly pastoral council meetings and monthly parish staff meetings.
• Assist with liturgical celebrations for OCIA/OCIC and planning for the Easter Vigil.
• Support First Communion and Confirmation rehearsals, confessions, retreats, and celebrations.
• Coordinate parent meetings and track student progress and required documents.
• Assist in developing individualized programs for students with special needs.
• Supervise hallways, entrances, and dismissal procedures to ensure child safety.
• Support implementation of Safe Environment policies.
• Collaborate with parish staff and ministry leaders; step in for the Coordinator when needed.
• Represent the Religious Education program with professionalism and pastoral care.
