Job summary

Camp Daisy and Harry Stein in Scottsdale seeks a dedicated leader to oversee the BIG TRIP Israel for rising 11th and 12th graders. You will supervise campers, coordinate with the Camp Director, and ensure safety and engagement throughout travel and activities.

Ideal candidates bring outstanding communication, a passion for working with youth, and proven responsibility. You will collaborate with co-counselors to plan programs and maintain camper well-being throughout the trip.

Responsibilities

  • To have primary responsibility for campers and their care.
  • Communicate daily with the Camp Director and provide updates on campers and the program.
  • Communicate with parents as necessary after consultation with the Camp Director.
  • Plan and assist in planning activities for the group including evening programs, special programs, campouts, and group time.
  • Maintain records/reports on campers in conjunction with Co-Counselor(s).
  • Be involved in travel programs including planning, setup, clean-up, and material preparation; assist program leaders as needed.
  • Travel to and from Israel with the Big Trip Israel's campers/staff; ensure campers' wellbeing at all times.
  • Coordinate with trip providers for any camper medical attention.
  • supervise campers during down times and ensure meetings and locations are known.
  • Evaluate the program, staff, and procedures in writing and offer suggestions for the future.

Camp Daisy and Harry Stein, owned and operated by Congregation Beth Israel in Scottsdale, is a unique and exciting place. A Jewish overnight summer camp nestled in the majestic Bradshaw Forest of Prescott, Arizona, it is a place where campers discover more about themselves, their abilities, & their Judaism. A summer of fun, a lifetime of memories!

We are seeking an enthusiastic individual to lead our summer trip to Israel for rising 11th and 12th graders. This is known as the BIG TRIP Israel.

Responsible to:
  • Camp Director
Position Responsibilities
  • To have primary responsibility for campers and their care.
  • Communicate daily with the Camp Director at Camp Provide any updates and share if there are any issues with campers and or the program.
  • Communicate with any parent as necessary after communication with the Camp Director.
  • To plan and assist in planning activities for the group where necessary, including: evening programs, special programs, camp outs, and group time
  • In conjunction with Co-Counselor(s), be responsible for recording and keeping reports on campers.
  • To maintain involvement in travel programs including: planning, facilitating, set- up, clean-up, and preparation of materials. If participating in a program run by an outside source maintain engagement, supervision and provide assistance to program leaders.
  • Have experience working with High School Sophomores & Juniors and have some basic knowledge of Israel that can be applied to programs and facilitating discussions
  • Travel to and from Israel with the Big Trip Israel's campers/staff. Be responsible for the campers whereabouts and wellbeing at all times.
  • Coordinate with the trip providers if any camper needs to seek medical attention
  • To take special care in guidance and supervision of campers during "down times"- early morning, rest hour, bedtime, etc. Campers should never be left without supervision. If there are specified times where campers are given free time to explore, make sure to designate meeting times and locations. Make sure you are easily found during these times in case a camper is having an issue that needs your full attention
  • Maintain a healthy working relationship with the trip staff. Communicate problems or issues with the Trip Unit Head. Make sure that all available counselors are present with the group
  • To evaluate in writing the program, staff, and procedures, making suggestions and recommendations for the future.
Position Requirements
  • 25 years of age or older
  • Experience significant for camping
  • Previous experience in specialty area, comparable to conditions present at Camp Stein. Previous experience at Camp Stein preferred but not required
  • Having visited Israel whether on own or part of a program
  • The ability travel, participate programs, oversee campers and work with co- counselors.
  • The ability to handle stressful situations
  • Ability to have open communication with director supervisors about issues that may arise with campers
