Job summary

BDO USA is seeking a Finance BI Manager to lead a team of BI developers and analysts in designing, building, and governing reporting and analytics for Finance and the business. You will set architecture standards, govern data models, and ensure the reliability and security of the BI portfolio.

You will partner with Finance leadership and stakeholders to translate priorities into a roadmap, oversee Power BI, SQL, data modeling, and Power Automate deliverables, and mentor team members to grow

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required in a related field.
  • Five or more years in Data Analytics, BI, or Application Development.
  • Two or more years leading or managing a technical team.
  • Experience with Finance data preferred.
  • Strong SQL, data modeling, semantic model definition or star schema construction required.
  • Experience developing and troubleshooting Power Automate workflows preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Leads and develops a team of Finance BI Developers and Analysts.
  • Escalation point for complex Power BI, SQL, data modeling, and Power Automate issues.
  • Owns Finance BI architecture and governance practices.
  • Translate priorities into a prioritized team roadmap and resourcing plan.
  • Review and approve Power BI reports, models, and documentation.
  • Ensure end-user training on reports is up to date.
  • Oversee workspace management, permissions, and access controls including Row Level Security.
  • Build relationships with data engineering, IT, and other partners.
  • Drive adoption of AI-enabled development practices with privacy and security in mind.
  • Establish and monitor standards for version control, testing, and peer review.
  • Communicate status and risks to Finance BI leadership.
  • Maintain accurate results and protect sensitive data.
  • Develop relationships with stakeholders to meet evolving reporting needs.
  • Apply branding and design standards to deliverables.
  • Stay updated on Power BI capabilities and evaluate new tools.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and training for new team members.
  • Other duties as assigned.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The BI Manager leads a team of Finance BI Developers and Analysts responsible for designing, building, and governing the reporting, analytics, and automation solutions that support Finance and business-wide decision making. This position sets development standards, semantic model architecture, and governance practices for the Finance BI team, and serves as the primary escalation point for complex technical issues, cross-functional stakeholder needs, and resourcing decisions. The Finance BI Manager partners with Finance leadership and business stakeholders to translate strategic reporting and analytics priorities into a coordinated team roadmap, oversees Power BI, SQL, data modeling, and Power Automate deliverables produced by the team, and is accountable for the quality, security, and reliability of the Finance BI portfolio. This role manages and develops team members, drives adoption of best practices, and reports to Finance BI leadership on team performance, priorities, and risks.

Job Duties
  • Leads, manages, and develops a team of Finance BI Developers and Analysts, including performance management, coaching, and career development
  • Serves as the primary escalation point for complex Power BI, SQL, data modeling, and Power Automate issues that exceed the scope of individual developers
  • Owns and evolves Finance BI architecture, semantic model design standards, data governance practices, and development guidelines across the team
  • Partners with Finance leadership and business stakeholders to translate strategic priorities into a prioritized team roadmap and resourcing plan
  • Reviews and approves Power BI reports, semantic models, DAX measures, data transformations, and documentation before deployment to ensure quality and consistency
  • Ensures reports have up-to-date training available for end-users
  • Oversees workspace management, permissions, deployment processes, and access controls, including Row Level Security, across the Finance BI Power BI environment
  • Manages relationships with data engineering, IT, and other technical partners to secure the data and infrastructure the team needs
  • Drives adoption of AI-enabled development practices responsibly, balancing efficiency gains with data privacy, security, and compliance requirements
  • Establishes and monitors team standards for version control, testing, documentation, training materials, and peer review processes
  • Communicates the status of major initiatives, risks, and resourcing needs to Finance BI leadership and other senior stakeholders
  • Exercises diligence with financial information by maintaining accurate results, safeguarding sensitive data, and supporting trusted business decisions
  • Builds and maintains relationships with business stakeholders to gather requirements and ensure delivered solutions meet evolving reporting and analytics needs
  • Applies branding standards, design principles, and Finance BI development standards to ensure a consistent, professional look and feel across deliverables
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of Power BI, data visualization, and analytics platform capabilities, and evaluate new tools and techniques for team adoption
  • Supports hiring, onboarding, and training for new Finance BI team members
  • Other duties as assigned
Education
  • Bachelor's degree, required
Experience
  • Five (5) or more years of experience within Data Analytics, Business Intelligence or Application Development, required
  • Two (2) or more years of experience leading or managing a technical team, required
  • Experience working with Finance data, preferred
Software
  • Strong SQL skills, required
  • Five (5) or more years of experience with, Data Modeling, Semantic Model Definition or Star Schema Construction, required
  • Strong SQL query development skills, including joins, aggregations, views, data validation, troubleshooting, and performance-aware query design, required
  • Experience developing, maintaining, and troubleshooting Microsoft Power Automate workflows to support reporting, approvals, notifications, data collection, and process automation, preferred

  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and develop a team of technical professionals.
  • Ability to interact effectively with people at all organizational levels and communicate complex concepts to senior and non-technical audiences

  • Ability to successfully multi-task while working independently or within a group environment
  • Comprehensive knowledge of data design, data modeling, data management, and data visualization
  • Strong analytical and research skills related to the retrieval and organization of high volumes of information
  • Ability to make sound decisions regarding architecture, prioritization, and resourcing with limited oversight
  • Ability to work in a deadline-driven environment, and handle multiple projects simultaneously

Salary

Individual salaries that are offered to a candidate are determined after consideration of numerous factors including but not limited to the candidate’s qualifications, experience, skills, and geography.

National Range: $130,000 - $150,000

Maryland Range: $130,000 - $150,000

NYC/Long Island/Westchester Range: $130,000 - $150,000
