BI ETL Data Developer II or III
Job Summary
The Business Intelligence ETL Data Developer II or III develops, maintains, and supports scalable data pipelines and analytics solutions that enable data‑informed decision‑making across the University. In this role, you own data pipelines, collaborate with stakeholders, ensure reliability and performance, and continuously improve data quality, maintainability, and performance in a cloud‑based data ecosystem.
Essential Duties
- Develop, maintain, and enhance data pipelines using modern ELT tools (e.g., dbt, Fivetran, Airflow, or similar) in a cloud‑based environment.
- Write, optimize, and maintain SQL and/or Python‑based transformations that support scalable analytics solutions.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve issues in production data pipelines to ensure reliability, performance, and data integrity.
- Implement data validation, testing, and quality checks to improve consistency and trustworthiness of data assets.
- Collaborate with stakeholders and technical partners to translate business needs into scalable data solutions.
- Support and improve existing data integrations and workflows with a focus on maintainability and performance optimization.
- Contribute to and follow best practices for version control, testing, deployment (CI/CD), and documentation of data pipelines, models, and system processes.
- Maintain documentation for data pipelines, models, and architecture, and guide team practices that support consistent delivery and continuous improvement.
- For Senior-level positions: lead design, performance tuning, proactive monitoring, robust data validation frameworks, and mentor team members.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a relevant field earned by date of hire with at least two to four years of relevant experience.
- OR associate’s degree earned by date of hire with at least four to six years of relevant experience.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication skills, able to convey technical concepts to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, adapt to changing requirements, and document solutions and processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing and maintaining data pipelines using modern ELT tools (dbt, Fivetran, Airflow, or similar).
- Experience with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake, Amazon Redshift, Google BigQuery, or Azure Synapse.
- Strong proficiency in Python for data processing, automation, or integration.
- Experience implementing data validation, testing, monitoring, and quality frameworks.
- Experience with version control (Git) and CI/CD workflows.
- Experience building supporting data models and analytics solutions in an agile environment.
- Ability to optimize data pipelines for performance, scalability, and cost efficiency.
- Experience working in complex organizational environments such as higher education, healthcare, or enterprise settings.
Salary
Minimum: $65,000. Maximum: $87,000. Salary commensurate with the level of the position, education, and experience.
