Job summary

Bishop Gadsden Episcopal Retirement Community on James Island, SC, is seeking BG@Home Companion team members to provide in-home care on weekends, promoting independence and social well‑being. Typical duties include personal care, assisting with meals and mobility, supporting restorative exercises, and ensuring safety and infection control, with travel across Charleston County.

Candidates must have a high school diploma, at least one year of elder care experience, be 18+, and have reliable

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
• At least 1 year of experience in long-term care for the elderly is required; home care experience is ideal.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Able to lift up to 50 lbs and perform mobility tasks.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and in writing.
• Willingness to travel to clients throughout Charleston County.
• Reliable transportation to and from James Island.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care including bathing, grooming, and basic hygiene.
• Assist with meals, hydration, and nutritional needs.
• Support restorative care and mobility exercises; help with positioning and ambulation.
• Promote client independence and safe functioning.
• Follow infection control precautions in all care activities.
• Share client information with supervisor using the communications binder.
• Launder clients’ personal items as needed.
• Maintain a pleasant, respectful, and courteous demeanor.

Description: BG@Home Companion WEEKENDS

Our Bishop Gadsden at Home Department is seeking Companion team members to provide in home support to clients that promotes independence and mobility with an emphasis on emotional, psychological and social well-being. The successful candidate will have compassion for and the desire to work with the elderly.

A Typical Day

• Provide personal care for clients, including bathing, showering, shampooing, oral hygiene, skin care, hair care, nail care, dressing, and shaving as needed.
• Assist clients with nutritional needs including serving, feeding, and providing proper fluid requirements.
• Assist with proper restorative care including range-of motion exercises, proper positioning, and ambulation.
• Encourage client independence and optimal level of functioning.
• Exercise standard precautions of infection control in all client care.
• Exchange client information with supervisor via communications binder.
• Launder clients’ personal items as needed.
• Maintain a pleasant, respectful, and courteous demeanor.

Requirements

What We Need In A Candidate

• High school diploma or equivalent, preferred.
• At least 1year experience within long-term care for the elderly required, home care experience is ideal.
• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Able to stand, stoop, bend, reach, squat, climb, reach above head, carry, and lift up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively both verbally and written
• Willingness to travel to clients throughout Charleston County
• Has reliable transportation to and from James Island.
