Jobgether is seeking a seasoned Electrical Engineer to lead troubleshooting and root-cause analyses for battery energy storage systems. You will translate complex failures into actionable reliability improvements, support field teams with on-site assessments, and coordinate data reporting on availability, SOC, and cycling.
Travel up to 25% across Texas and other regions is required. Responsibilities include collaborating with performance engineers, reviewing interconnection requirements, and
- Lead troubleshooting and technical investigations into battery energy storage system faults, equipment failures, and operational issues, using equipment histories, telemetry, and other operational data to minimize downtime and safety risks.
- Conduct detailed root cause analyses of electrical, thermal, and control-system failures, translating findings into corrective actions and long-term reliability improvements.
- Travel to operating sites to assess equipment conditions, independently support field troubleshooting, and provide actionable technical recommendations to field teams.
- Coordinate and validate BESS data collection to ensure accurate reporting of availability, capacity, State of Charge (SOC), cycling behavior, and other critical operational performance indicators.
- Collaborate with performance engineers to evaluate portfolio-wide trends, identify recurring issues, and recommend hardware or software upgrades that improve safety, reliability, and energy output.
- Monitor and manage battery storage warranties in collaboration with asset managers, accounting for differences in OEM architectures and contractual requirements to protect asset value and enforce performance guarantees.
- Build and maintain strong technical relationships with OEMs and external vendors, coordinating the resolution of complex issues and evaluating relevant industry innovations.
- Review engineering design drawings, electrical and mechanical calculations, and site interconnection requirements to ensure technical quality and operational readiness.
- Evaluate operational procedures and technical documentation produced by internal and external teams, ensuring alignment with engineering standards and safety expectations.
- Document lessons learned from operating assets and use these insights to improve future project development, engineering, construction, and operational practices.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen the long-term performance and lifecycle management of the energy storage portfolio.
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering is required; a Master of Science in Electrical Engineering or PhD is preferred.
- At least five years of engineering experience in utility-scale power generation or energy storage, including direct operational support for utility-scale battery energy storage projects exceeding 100 MW.
- Strong technical understanding of BESS architectures and components, including battery cells, modules, racks, battery management systems (BMS), power conversion systems (PCS), thermal management systems (TMS), and energy management systems (EMS).
- Ability to assess how differences between OEM technologies and system architectures affect operations, safety, performance, and warranty obligations.
- Demonstrated experience leading root cause analyses for complex electrical, thermal, or controls-related failures and translating findings into actionable reliability improvements.
- Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting BESS telemetry and historian data, including availability, capacity retention, SOC calibration, cycling limits, and ramp rates.
- Experience reviewing electrical and mechanical engineering drawings, technical calculations, and site interconnection requirements.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with field operations teams, engineers, asset managers, OEMs, and external technical partners.
- Willingness and ability to travel up to 25% to operating sites across Texas and other regions within the asset portfolio.
