Job description

Strategic Benefits Leadership Opportunity

Our client is seeking an experienced Benefits Manager to lead the administration and strategic direction of a comprehensive employee benefits program. This is a high-visibility opportunity to partner closely with HR leadership and evaluate, enhance, and potentially rebuild the organization’s benefits strategy.

The ideal candidate is a strategic, analytical, and hands‑on benefits professional who can balance day‑to‑day administration with long‑term program strategy and employee experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead administration of medical, dental, vision, life, disability, retirement, leave, wellness, and other benefit programs.
  • Partner with HR leadership to evaluate the effectiveness, competitiveness, and cost of existing programs and recommend improvements.
  • Analyze utilization, participation, employee feedback, and market trends to identify opportunities for program enhancements.
  • Lead annual renewals, including plan design, financial analysis, vendor evaluation, negotiations, and recommendations.
  • Manage relationships with brokers, consultants, carriers, and third‑party administrators.
  • Oversee benefits budgets, forecasts, reporting, billing, and financial analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with ERISA, ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, FMLA/CFRA, ADA, and other applicable regulations.
  • Serve as the subject matter expert and escalation point for complex benefits matters.
  • Lead and develop a team of two benefits professionals.
  • Partner cross‑functionally with HR, Payroll, Finance, Recruiting, and other stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 8+ years of progressive benefits or total rewards experience.
  • Strong experience managing comprehensive employee benefits programs and annual renewals.
  • Knowledge of applicable benefits laws and regulations.
  • Experience with vendor management, plan design, budgeting, analytics, and negotiations.
  • Proven people leadership experience.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; Workday experience strongly preferred.
  • CEBS, CBP, SHRM-CP/SCP, PHR/SPHR, or similar certification preferred.
  • Law firm or professional services experience preferred.

The Opportunity

This role is ideal for someone who wants to be more than a benefits administrator. You will have the opportunity to assess the current benefits program, identify gaps, challenge the status quo, and help shape a modern, competitive benefits strategy that supports both employees and the organization.

  • Base Salary: $160,000 – $180,000 based on experience
  • Performance-based incentive opportunities
  • Comprehensive benefits package including health, retirement, and additional perks
