Job description

The Benefits Manager is responsible for designing, implementing, and managing employee benefits programs to ensure they align with organizational goals and comply with legal requirements in addition to being meaningful, impactful, and cost-effective. This role involves collaborating with leadership, vendors, and employees to maintain competitive and effective benefits offerings that attract and retain top talent while optimizing costs. We are looking for an individual who has strong leadership skills and who has the ability to quickly analyze information, make recommendations, and act on those recommendations to accomplish tasks with agility.

Key Responsibilities:
Plan and Manage Benefits Programs
  1. Lead the administration of employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, life insurance, wellness initiatives, and other perks.
  2. In collaboration with our Benefits Broker, evaluate and compare existing benefits with industry benchmarks to ensure competitiveness.
Benefits Strategy Development
  1. Partner with our Benefits Broker to analyze benefits data and trends to recommend changes or new offerings that align with company goals.
  2. Collaborate with leadership to develop and implement a long-term benefits strategy.
Budgeting and Cost Management
  1. Prepare and manage the benefits budget, monitoring costs and identifying opportunities for cost savings.
  2. Provide periodic reports on benefits utilization and financial impacts.
Vendor and Partner Management
  1. Select and manage relationships with benefits providers, brokers, and third-party administrators.
  2. Negotiate contracts, pricing, and service level agreements.
Compliance and Reporting
  1. Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including Non-Discrimination Testing, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, ERISA, and ACA.
  2. Prepare and file required reports, such as Form 5500.
Audits and Quality Control
  1. Conduct regular audits of benefits programs to verify accuracy, identify discrepancies, and ensure compliance with legal and organizational standards.
  2. Conduct continuous review of processes and procedures and make recommendations across all departments that interact with Benefits, which will improve and streamline the entire process of benefits administration.
  3. Electronic Data Integration (EDI) file management.
Employee Support and Communication
  1. Serve as the primary point of contact for employee benefits inquiries and issues.
  2. Develop and deliver communications, including open enrollment materials and benefits training sessions.
  3. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
Education
  1. Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required.
  2. Master's degree or certifications (e.g., CEBS, PHR, SPHR) preferred.
Experience
  1. Minimum of 5 years of experience as a benefits manager or Sr. benefits lead.
  2. Experience leading a team.
  3. Experience managing benefits for a multistate workforce is highly preferred.
  4. Proven experience managing self-billing processes for group insurance plans is highly desirable.
Skills and Competencies
  1. Strong knowledge of benefits laws and regulations.
  2. Excellent analytical, negotiation, and organizational skills.
  3. Proficiency in HRIS systems (ADP Workforce Now preferred) and Microsoft Office Suite.
  4. Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
