Job summary

Qualifications

• One year of work experience with psychiatric population preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• BLS/CPR required within 90 days of start date or orientation completion.
• CPI or other de-escalation technique training within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Provides nursing care to a patient or group of patients under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse.
• Leads groups and activities with patients.
• Prioritizes assignments and provides patient education.
• Maintains a safe patient environment per hospital policies.
• Shows initiative in offering assistance with unit needs.
• Communicates with patients, visitors and coworkers courteously.
• Documents patient data in paper forms and the EMR.
• Assesses and reports changes in patient condition promptly.
• Demonstrates knowledge of restraints and safety procedures.
• Maintains therapeutic milieu and safety on Behavioral Health unit.
• Leads or co-leads group activities and documents participation.
• Respects patient rights and ensures informed consent.
• Provides education to patients and families about treatments.
