Job description

Youth Behavioral Health Technician

Full-Time | Murray, UT

Live for Life provides structured behavioral health services for adolescents with mental health challenges, including therapy, psychiatric care, skill-building, and transition support. Our mission is to help youth build the skills needed to successfully return to their families, communities, and adult lives.

Aspen Program — Transition to Adult Living

Aspen serves older male adolescents preparing for greater independence and adulthood. The program combines behavioral health treatment with real-world skill development, mentorship, accountability, and opportunities to practice increasing independence.

Role Overview

Aspen's treatment approach emphasizes real-world application. Behavioral Health Technicians help youth turn therapeutic work and individualized transition goals into the routines, decisions, relationships, and responsibilities of everyday adult life.

This is an active, relationship-based role—not passive supervision. Staff work alongside youth to coach, model, teach, redirect, problem-solve, and reinforce progress while maintaining safety, structure, accountability, and professional boundaries.

What You'll Do
  • Build positive mentoring relationships while maintaining clear professional boundaries
  • Coach independent-living skills such as cooking, budgeting, household responsibilities, organization, transportation, and employment readiness
  • Support youth in working toward individualized transition goals
  • Provide active supervision, coaching, prompting, and redirection
  • Help youth problem-solve decisions, conflicts, setbacks, and everyday challenges
  • Facilitate skill-building activities and participate alongside youth
  • Maintain consistent expectations and respectfully set limits
  • Monitor and document behavior, progress, concerns, and significant events
  • Communicate important observations and concerns with program and clinical team members
  • Transport youth to approved appointments, activities, and community outings using approved company vehicle
Who Does Well at Aspen?

Aspen is a strong fit for people who can build genuine relationships with older adolescents while maintaining accountability and professional boundaries.

Youth may test boundaries, resist expectations, make impulsive choices, disengage, argue, or become frustrated when limits are set. Successful staff remain calm, consistent, respectful, and emotionally steady without becoming reactive, overly permissive, or engaging in power struggles.

Strong Aspen staff are:

  • Active & Engaged — You interact, coach, teach, and notice what's happening instead of supervising from the sidelines.
  • Calm & Consistent — You maintain expectations and don't take challenging behavior personally.
  • Comfortable Setting Limits — You can respectfully redirect behavior and say "no" when necessary.
  • Proactive — You look for opportunities to engage, teach, model, and support without waiting to be told.
  • Strong Role Models — You model responsibility, communication, healthy boundaries, problem-solving, and everyday adult-living skills.
Minimum Requirements
